Making Your Own Cake.. Question

I plan to make my OWN wedding cake for my wedding.. BUT I am unsure of how to get little Roses made from frosting.. OR little swag type borders that look like Pearl strings on the cake.. DOES anyone know how to get this to happen?

Thanks!

Have you thought of taking some classes offered by some stores? My sister makes cakes and at times she will add little plastic items and it looks beautiful. I would experiment before making the real wedding cake. You can always use a sponge for a model and frost it like a real cake and practice. You can buy a string of beads and put them on.Good luck.

Take a class. Micheals and sometimes local stores will offer them. Wilton has class information on their website. They also have instruction books available. Try your local library. But practice untill you feel comfortable, because getting the icing super smooth is harder than making roses.

If your skill level is very low- consider loose swirls of frosting with fresh flowers for garnish. It`s much easier to pull off. Good Luck and have fun with it!

Hi I am also going to make my own cake. I have not taken classes but have taught myself. You can get Wilton Cake books at Walmart and they have a step by step explanation of making roses. Or go to www.Wilton.com and they have a short video on how to make roses on the website that you can view.

Good Luck
