WINE THEME RECEPTION

Does anyone have any ideas for a wine themed reception? Our wedding is in Oct of 2004, and we are trying to figure out how to decorate and what type of centerpieces to have. So far we`ve decided on wine bottle stoppers for wedding favors.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thnx!

Grapes, cheese platters, baskets, leaves. See if you can track down some wooden wine boxes from a higher-end liquor store or restaurant(s) in your area. For a wine-lover friend`s wedding gift I got a wood box from work, lined it with raffia (or try that moss grass stuff) and put a bottle of wine (in the cooler I bought for her) in it. You could do the same thing if you can find one box per table, line it with mossy grass stuff or raffia and a bottle of red wine for the table to share at dinner as a centerpiece. You can see if someone can rent you white wine sleeves, or something to pack them on ice, so you can have a bottle of red and white at the table. Check the clearance sections at large stores like Target, etc. Now--I recall seeing wine bottle baskets you would take on picnics too. You can find wine markers anywhere these days and that could be a favor as well (the little charms that go around the base of a wine glass so you can identify your wine at a party). Consider a cheese table or platter for an appetizer, bread and olive oil a the table. Think a little French, Italian. Maybe have your DJ play some Italian and/or French music (think accordian-a Paris or Venice cafe at night) in the background before the dancing starts. Maybe on your gift table you can set up your personal wine rack with a few display bottles of wine and some other things. If you are of age, see if there are wine tastings around your area at martini/wine bars...Hope at least one of these helps! :)

DOLLAR STORE! There is so much stuff in one of those!
Wonder if any restaurant would save old wine bottles for you. How about a "grape stomping" shower? Then You would NEED a shower!Whatever you do, have fun and enjoy!

If you know someone in the restaurant/bar biz, ask them to save old wine bottles for you, and even the corks (you could spread them around the tables and the gift table). There have been many occasions where we`ve saved corks because someone`s relative wanted to make a wine-cork wreath out of them. Another idea! I didn`t even think of the dollar store. I`m happy to help...

I just thought of something with my idea of spreading corks on the tables...they might fall on the ground and then someone could roll their ankle on it. Someone can probably help you make a cork wreath though for a centerpiece. I wouldn`t worry about the grapes...they`re grapes! Glad you found some. Did you find any baskets?

Ooh, great! You can definitely use her as a resource. The wooden boxes are cool, I wish I had snaked one from my job before I left. The one I got for my friend was so cool. Are you allowed to bring in your own alcohol where you are having your reception? She may be able to get you cases of wine at a discount if you go with putting a bottle of red and white at each table... Do you have a Cost Plus World Market near you? They have a great wine section and you might be able to find cool decorations or ideas there too (they have a huge basket section as well). I`d love to hear what you come up with. I`m not even sure when your wedding and reception are or where? Keep me posted... :)

What about personalized labels that you could put on the wine bottles - with your wedding date, your names, etc. Maybe even including a picture of you two on the label! ddnj@juno.com if you want more details.

Check out michaels craft stores for other colours of grapes. We were just there yesterday, they had green, white, purple, red and cranberry

I`m having a wine and cheese reception late this next summer. We`re getting married at a winery and having the reception on a cruise boat on one of the NY Finger Lakes. My aunt is pretty crafty: She decided to make an enormous amount of homemade wine and bottle it into small bottles for favors. Of course, we`ll put our own personalized labels on them. It`s kind of a neat and chep idea, but time-consuming. She`s already started making the wine. We have no clue what it will taste like. That`s the only downfall: She`s never made this kind before.
Also, each guest will have a different wine glass. We`re collecting them from 2nd hand stores and rummage sales. Big ones, small ones, red, blue, crystal ones....
We`ll see.... Good luck and have fun with it!

I am doing a wine and rose theme wedding. I saw a message about grapes at michaels and yes there is a huge selection there of all types of grape clusters. That is what I am using for my centerpieces. And right now they have all their grapes 50% off. If anyone knows where to get small half wine barrells that is m original idea but I have had no luck, let me know someone thanks.

I, too, am having a wine theme at my wedding this September. Instead of numbering our tables at our reception, we`re naming them by various wines. For example, Mr. And Mrs. Peter Maier will be at the Shiraz table.....

That`s a neat idea Jeanine by naming the tables after various types of wine. Very creative!!!

I just wanted to let you know about `Ask Ginka.com` - our wedding is in Oct 2004 and because my fiancee took me out to Napa Valley and proposed (we live in VT!!!) I changed everything I had in mind for a wedding to a wine theme in honor of that event. I found a LOT of goods and ideas from that site and if you need any more - look there. Congratulations and good luck!!!

Just to let everyone know - if you are planning on buying champagne glasses or wine glasses for favors - go to IKEA (hopefully you live close to one) I had already gotten glasses and then went to IKEA on another mission - and they were really nice and such a great price. Check it out!
