Black And White Wedding...need Advice

Our son is having a November wedding, and the bridesmaids are wearing very pretty black dresses with white trim. The bride said the moms should get any color they want. The mother of the bride is wearing a long, black dress with a jacket of soft, shimmery metallic fabric. (silvery, I think) Since the bride`s mom is wearing some black I`d like to wear a dress that has black in it too, to stay with the black and white theme, but the bride`s mom thinks I should get a different color, that if we both wear black it may look too much "like a funeral" (her words). If I get another color, I feel that I`ll stand out on the wedding photos rather than blending in nicely. Any ideas or advice for me? I`m stymied.

How about something in a shimmery gray?

Ooh...good idea! If I could find a shade of gray that looks good on me, that would be great. I have fair skin and ash blond hair, so If it`s not too light a gray that would work. Or did you mean shimmery all over, like a silver color? If I can`t find anything gray I`m wondering if, as a second choice, I could get something in a very deep shade of midnight blue. I like the gray idea better though. I don`t want to stand out on any wedding photos. The bride is the one who should be noticed, not me. Thanks.

HI,
I just got married this past month and it was a Black & White wedding, all my bridemaids wore black, then I gift them as one of their gifts a shall in a shimmery color, you can do the same, there are a lot of black shades and models, I can send you a picture of all of us if you like,, let me know.
Good luck

That sounds beautiful, Reme! What a lovely and thoughtful gift for the bridesmaids! I`d like to see a photo, but I don`t post my email on message boards anymore because I had a bad experience that way. (Not that you would do anything, but some people are lurkers who love to harass people.) I appreciate the offer, though. Were the shawls triangular in the back or just a long rectanglar shape?

My daughter-in-law-to-be asked me if I would make dried bouquets with peonies, roses, baby`s breath, and greens in them, to be given to the bridesmaids at the rehearsal dinner. (I dry flowers and make floral arrangements as a business. This is a donation on my part. Should be a nice remembrance for the girls.) Thanks, Reme.

I`m so sorry about your bad luck with the mail,,, 8-(
Ok , I got the shall at Bealls outlet, they are long, they kind of look like indian material, they shine, but they did not overtook me. The girls tied them on the back and kind of like it looks like a jacket,,,
I did all the bouquets, everyone was different, to mark their personality, (for example, my friend Stacey`s had a little hint on orange, and her shall was orange) I made them to look like a ball and I put ribbon like a purse and they wore them hang from their hands, I`m sorry my english is not that grea, and I can not splain my self good,,, but I hope that you can imagine it.

One of the airmans that work with me, did not have money so she made for me the Unity candle, with one of my invitations some ribbon and satin flowers, it did look really great, and it was a greast gesture from her, and I did love it..........

Where are you getting your cakes??
I got mine at SAMs, I did not wanted a tiered cake, so I did order 3 cakes, and i decorate one of my brass servers (thank God, I never do), I got them 2 White and 1 cocolate (grooms cake) and my center was a white couple in one of my white cakes and another with a couple that the bride is pulling the groom by the jacket ( I got it at Michael`s, everyone love the cake, it really was good and tasty and the center were a hit!!
Let me know if you need any more ideas...
Take care

You must be very talented, Reme. Your flower ideas sound great, and the cakes too. I don`t know what kind of cakes the bride`s mom is getting. (I don`t think I have to get a cake too, do I? ) Thanks for explaining the shawls further. They sound beautiful.

M,
I think a deep gray would look good , and especially if it had a touch of shimmer for pizazz, but not too much. I don`t think a silver would do well, and I really don`t think I like the idea of the blue either. I feel for you with the coloring and hair.... I have the same :).
If you do need someone to email you a picture or something, just set up a temporary hotmail account(it`s free) and then you can always close it down .
