We have executed multiple Birthday Parties and some games are fun. One that is very fun is to have the people closest to the guest of honor put together questions about his life. Then the first one to answer the question correctly can be given a scratch off lottery ticket as a prize. You need to ensure the questions span his entire life, from childhood, college, work and retirement (if appropriate). That way guests from all walks of his life have an opportunity to be included.

It is nice to have favors for all the guests (or couples) that tie into the theme of the event. If your father is a fisherman, golfer, bowler, gardener, wine conneisseur you can use that as a theme and then select a favor.
