Newman Decor Airbrush Picture By SUE
Hi ...I was just reading a question on your board reguarding the Newman Decor co. Out of NYC. I have a large set of airbrush prints by "SUE" with the ND stamp. I am trying to find out more about these prints as I am interested in selling them but would like to know more about them. I believe they are in the original faux bamboo frames. The prints measure 13.5 X 15 and are of a simple country scene with mauves, pinks, beige and greens as the major colors. I would appreciate anything you could tell me about them

Hi Katherine...Did you ever get any more info on your Newman Decor originals? I just bought two beautiful ones at a yard sale and am dying to know what year they were painted. Any help you can give me would be super!

Hi Annette
I have a matched set both dated 1941. Newman Designs was a factory in NYC that made airbrush paintings for interior design stores. All the artist signed with their first names. I would love to see more of "SUE`S` work. This is about all I know. I just love my set and they are in the original faux bamboo frames.
What are yours of? I did take a picture to email you but
Just realized I can`t send it to this message board. Mine are sort of early California looking with great green and mauve colors. Hope this gives you some useful info.

Hi
I also have a picture painted by the mysterious "Sue". It is a young lady wearing a hat, looking down at a bouquet of flowers. It appears to be airbrushed or water color . 20 inches X 24 inches on textured cardboard; blond, wooden frame. My grandmother purchased it from a furniture store in St. Louis in the 40s. Also looks like those described by your other repliers re- the colors. On the back of the picture it says " Copyrighted 1943 Newman Decor, Inc." If you have any info on who this may be or if the picture has any value please email back. It is a heirloom so my mother has no desire to get rid of the picture, just interested in the history.

HI
Geeez "SUE" really got around. Sounds like the picture your Grandmother has is right in there with that date and all. I actually found a newcomb painting by "HARRIS" last night. A very different kind of picture from mine but it is a Newcomb airbrush from the 40`s. The email is www.epier.com/ item #188703 you should go look. I`d love to send my picture of my picture but I don`t know how so you will just have to imagine.I hope more SUE or HARRIS owners leave a message.Bye Katherine

Hello all, and was so pleased to see your responses. Katharine: My paintings are still lifes with a decidedly oriental feel. Very beautiful colors of smokey blues, pinks,
And peaches. They came in their original frames, which are a peachy pink, with a striped design. Also, inside the main frame, there is a real mirrored strip: amazing that it survived all these years. I`m just thrilled to have them...especially considering I only paid $4.00 for the pair. BTW, if you look on eBay, you`ll find a pair (auction ending in a few hours) of very nice Harris-signed paintings. The Item # is 3552499250. She`s asking $79.00 for them, but hasn`t gotten a bid yet.
Thanks to you all for the edifying responses! I`ll definitely keep my eye out for more of these...They`re too lovely to be tossed out, which - I`m afraid - is what happens to a lot of these.
Have a great week! Annette

We also have a Newman Decor watercolor airbrush picture but it is signed by `Guild`. It is marked as #1658 and has `South` also. It is of a pink bird and light blue flowers with a dark blue backrgound mask on matte board. It has a tan plaster frame of simulated tassels. Does anyone know about this picture or artist?

My daughter has one with birds in a frame that has the glass around the edge. It sounds a lot like your`s but it isn`t a Newcomb but is airbrushed. I think the ones with birds like Macha`s are really collectable and expensive. II really like airbrush the more I see it.
Bye

Hi I live in Nashville and have found you through google. I have an airbrush print by "Peters" of a tiger, in the orginal bamboo frame. Newman Decor Inc. 1941, do you have any info on value or where I can go to have it appraised? Thanks Phil

Hi Phil,
I`m in the same boat. Don`t quite know how to start finding a value.
But I did see another post from a guy who collects these. He said he paid $250.00 for the last one he bought (although he`s found them for as little as a few dollars...).
I only paid $4.00 for the pair I got at a yard sale!
Hope someone can help you!

My wife just purchased a pair of Newman Decor airbrush watercolors. Romantic scenes with a well dressed couple under a tree. The frames are wood with a plaster flower overlay. The artist is Harris. We`d love to find out more about them.

Hi All,
I recently purchased o couple of watercolors at an estate sale. They are stamped on the back "copyright 1942 Newmna Decor, Inc. The artist on my pictures is Peters.
The pics are of flowers with a black , fade-in background and muted greens, pinks and whites. The flowers are set off by fine stark white brush strokes in the center of the flers and in the veins of the leaves.
If I didn`t pick them up at such a reasonable price, I would ahve paid $70.00 each for them!

Hi, I have a genuine watercolor that was done with airbrush by Sue that once hung in my bedroom when I was a child. It is in the original frame, measures 15 by 17 and is done in beiges, brown, blues and gray and is of two fancy dressed women. Is it worth keeping or yard sale material?

HI-
I ALSO HAVE 3 BEAUTIFUL AIRBRUSH PICS STAMPED NEWMAN DECOR ON BACK.
2 OF THEM ARE SIGNED -"GUILD"- THESE 2 EACH DEPICT WHAT APPEARS TO BE A VICTORIAN DRESSED COUPLE. IN BOTH THE LADY IS SEATED, AND THE GENTLEMAN IS STANDING. ON ONE THE LADY IS PLAYING A PIANO, AND ON THE OTHER THE LADY IS SITTING IN FRONT OF A SMALL TABLE, W/THE GENTLEMAN HANDING HER A BOUQUET OF FLOWERS. THESE 2 ARE BOTH STAMPED NEWMAN DECOR- 1940. AND ARE IN MATCHING BLONDE WOODEN FRAMES-( HARD TO DESCRIBE , BUT VERY NICE.
THE OTHER PASTEL IS STAMPED NEWMAN DECOR- 1941 ON THE BACK. BUT THE ENTIRE BACKGROUND IS SHINY SILVER. IT DEPICTS A LADY WALKING ALONG GREEN GRASS HOLDING A BUSHEL OF LEAFY FLOWERS. OBVIOUSLY A DIFFERENT ARTIST, BUT SIMILAR STYLE- (LONG & FLOWING). THIS ONE IS UNSIGNED.
IF ANYONE HAS ANY INFO ON THESE (PRICE, YEAR WORK WAS DONE, ETC.) I WOULD GREATLY APPRECIATE IT. MY E-MAIL ADDRS.IS:
