Atlanta Wedding

Hi everyone,
I am looking for a reception/ceremony site in the Atlanta Metro area. We are hoping to have the ceremony outside in May 2004. Also I`m looking for exceptional vendors in Atlanta if you have recomendations. (baker, florist,dj,caterer, etc.) Dress shops and party supply shops would be helpful too. Im still in the beginning stages of planning and I have a tight budget. I was also thinking about adding a little something "Southern" in the wedding if y`all have any suggestions. Im from up North so I`m not sure about the Southern stuff. Any tips would be GREATLY appreciated.

I`m from Atlanta but do not live there now . Here are a few places I know of in the area.
*There`s a beautiful park called Stone Mountain Park ( it`s a confederate memorial park) that has hotels and pavillions all around it. You may want to call them and see what they offer. I would imagine they offer all the ammenties you need. I just visited there again recently. Still as beautiful as I remember.
*Outside the park there`s a resturant called the Magnolia Tea room. They have a nice room for receptions. I believe they also offer catering.

As far as "southern" things go, I`m all southern so I can give you a few ideas.
*Magnolias as a flower are as southern as you can get. They are also beautiful.
*Lemonade and iced sweet tea at the receptions are a must .
*If you can find someone who makes tea cakes, those are a great southern tradition too.
*If you decide to have a sit down reception, fried chicken , mashed potatoes, corn, okra, green beans, and cornbread are all southern favorites as well.

The "big" hair and dresses went out with the 80`s but you mentioned an outdoor wedding so depending on the dresses you buy, you might want to consider a parasol ( beautiful umbrella) for your bridesmaids to carry to keep them out of the hot sun.
If need any more info from the area, let me know I can find things out for you. I still have relatives in the area.
Hope this helps!

There is a beautiful old home on Peachtree St that is a great l place for a wedding. It is called the Rhodes House and it is the home of the Georgia Trust for Historic Preservation. They do ceremonies on the amazing front portch as well as in the yard and inside the house. If you want a Southern flare, this is the place. Inside the house is a two story stained glass mural of the transformation of the South before, during, and after the Civil War. It is classy "southern", not country (ie. Fried chicken). Check it out at www.rhodeshall.org. I volunteer there now, and beleive me, when I get married I want it to be there. Good Luck!

Katheryn,
Sorry for my fried chicken suggestion. I guess being born and raised "southern" for many generations back a southerner does not make.
It is possible to make a suggestion and not put another one down ( your "ie. Fried chicken" comment).
Class is all a matter of how it`s served.

I to am having an outdoor wedding in May in the Atlanta Metro area. I have looked at a couple of sites in Roswell and they looked a bit run down to me. Primrose Cottage and the Kimberly House. They offer good rates but the gounds need some work :)

Hi!
Magnolia hall in Piedmont Park is a wonderful reception facility, and they offer the option to have the ceremony at the park, at the gazebo or by the lake for an extra fee. It`s in the city thereby making for a nice central location for your guests to explore Atlanta. I am having a ceremony there next month! If you need help with vendors, feel free to email me, I have a ton of great ones :) kerri@atlantakick.com
