Parents Not Attending My Wedding
Hey there.
I got engaged with my girlfriend for 4 1/2years a few days ago.
Both of us are professionals & don`t have any major bad characteristics.
We have already set a date being 28 November 2009, we have started to tell our family members & friends.
Only thing is my parents who live in another state, only 8 hours drive away, have told me they can`t attend because they need to run their restaurant (small business) that week being close to the Christmas season.
I don`t understand- I`m their only son and my sister was married last year and they attended (they were still with us then).
They say they support my marriage & like my fiance- but I don`t feel that
What should I do- ignore them, pity them or keep asking them?

Ray- Is there anyway to pick an earlier or later date that doesn`t interfere with their busiest season? Or can you contact their workers to see if the restaurant can be run without them? If you show that their presence is important to you, they may feel better about the date (and your fiancee).

I feel your pain. Can at least one of your parents attend? If not, I agree with Barbara, change the date. I am self employed and have missed many events due to that. Its the nature of being self employed. I would pick another date not so close to Thanksgiving. The beginning of November. You may find many other will be unable to attend due to the thanksgiving season.
