Long-Distance Engagement And Very Low Budget!

Can someone offer advice??

I`m a 21 year old college student and have been engaged for seven months. My fiance and I live 1,000 miles from each other and are lucky to spend long vacations with one another 3 times a year. Now we`re at that point to begin planning a wedding (which could happen as soon as December of this year, but an official date hasn`t been set yet). Being college students and wanting to marry between semesters, we`ll obviously have a very limited budget. Are there any ways to cut costs and still have a beautiful ceremony and reception?

Also, about this long-distance planning--if anybody has gone through this PLEASE offer some advice. I`m not sure yet whether the event will take place in his state or mine. I`m more flexible when it comes to moving because my fiance is closer to finishing his degree, whereas I`m up for transferring. And of course I know somebody is going to put in their 2-cents about waiting until we graduate, but we`ve lived in different time-zones for 3 years, only able to talk on the phone every night. We`re very much in love and want to find a way to make this work smoothly and be together forever. I`d appreciate any help. Thanks!

I know how hard it can be having a long distance relationship.

To keep prices low, try searching online on Ebay for items needed for the cermony. I did that and a lot of things I bought were a lot cheaper then the bridal shops around here. A lot of sellers will even do custom orders on flowers to get the colors you need.
Also, try making your own wedding invites. Many craft stores like Michaels or Ben Franklin sell pretty papers and give good ideas on how to make invites for really cheap. :) Invites can be very expensive if you buy them.. But if your not creative.. Try ebay.. They have tons of homemade invites online for cheap too! :) under $100 for 100 invites is not bad. For center pieces .. Walmart sells floral arrangments for under $20. And sometimes if you talk to a craft person in the craft department she can make one custom for you. They also sell silks for very cheap and you can make your own arrangements.

IF you need any ideas, feel free to email me. Kari4kings@msn.com

I hope I helped.....

As for wedding planning goes. Talk with each other and choose colors and a theme....find out what each likes and dislikes .. And create a list. Also maybe take tons of photos of items your thinking about buying for the wedding and emailing them to each other to see if each other like them? Also keep in touch.. And tell each other exactly what you are doing wedding wise. The best thing in planning a wedding is talking! :) It is your special day and you want it to stay that way!

Good luck!

I know that I have saved a lot of money by doing a few things differently than what might be concerned traditional::

1. Buying my wedding dress on Ebay. It`s is exactly what I was looking for. It`s brand new with the tags, retails for $675 and I bought it and had it delivered for a $145. **please remember that it can be hard to buy over the internet...the best advice I can offer is to start by having a friend or someone take your measurements, then be sure to ask for the measurements of the dress, pictures, etc......then double check everything!!!! Also you might want to remember that you don`t have to be limited to just a bridal gown, because bridesmaid`s dresses come in white and so do most prom dresses.

2. While I am having a fancy wedding, I decided that I simply could not stand the thought of spending 150, 300, and up for a wedding cake...that everyone will eat and then no one will remember in a month. So, I checked around and found that most bakerys {Kroger`s, BiLo, Walmart, etc......} make a full sheet cake {like a birthday cake but about 4 times bigger} that serves 75-85 with any decorations, colors, etc...... That you could think of for less than $40. I couldn`t believe it!!!

3. You may want to ask family and friends to do things for your wedding instead of giving gifts. I have one friend who is going to make all of the bows for the pews, another friend who is going to provide some of the food from his shop, another friend who is going to personally escort out of towners to the church, others who are helping by providing a room in their home for out of towners to stay the night, someone else playing the wedding march and other music, etc......

4. Oh one more thing, my soon-to-be husband and I decided against using a pro for taking our pictures. We are going to purchase one-time use cameras {which you can get at Wal-mart} for less than $3.00 a piece. We are going to ask a family member with a regular camera to come in before or after the wedding to make the pictures that we want the most and then the rest will come from randomly picked guest who are given the one-time-use cameras. **Also remember that if you use a pro for your pictures and then you want a copy later that you will have to buy it directly from the pro because the pictures are copyrighted. While if you use a family member, etc.....you can take the pictures to anywhere, use the instant photo maker, to make copies, enlarge pictures, etc........

Finally remember then is the best time to watch the newspapers for a dress because it`s after the June weddings and May proms. I have a ton of other ideas but I guess that I have listed enough. If you or anyone else for that matter would like to talk and/or share ideas then please feel free to email me at Creative_Ideas@Excite.Com

~~Good Luck~~

We are plannning a long distance wedding though my Fiancee and I are together, we`re having it in my hometown over 800 miles away. We have found the internet invaluable. Is his family willing to help? Yours? Because my Mom has done so much of the planning for us. We find things at the 100`s of wedding sites and E-mail each with photos etc and then she orders them, so far have not been disappointed yet. We have purchased and received so many of the thiings we need. We`ve gotten all the things for the church including the unity candle set and holder, ringbearer pillow, flowergirl basket, the aisle runner etc.
Then when either they come and visit us (which they`ve done twice since the planning started last October and we`ve been there twice) I get to see everything for real. On our trips home we have met with our florist, Pastor,
And recently I had my first fitting. We ordered the invitations online after we had ordered samples. My Mom got them last week and just mailed me one it is beautiful. So I say get your Mom and Mother-in-law online and start from there. I have often said through this whole process what did people do just a few short years ago without the internet? good luck.....
