HAWAIIAN THEMED WEDDING IDEAS???

I am wanting to have an outdoor, backyard Hawaiian themed wedding at my sisters house and need some ideas on how to decorate and stuff. I am going to keep it simple with just family and me wear a hawaiian sundress and fiance wear a hawaiian shirt and shorts. My sister has a above ground pool and there is a play area for the kids but there is like NO TREES in her backyard at all, so not sure of what time of day to do this..dont want to be out in the sun all day, and dont know about decorations or what foods to have. Any help I can get would be appreciated.

It would be cool to have a pig roast. Alot of food, plus tastes excellent and you can rent the spit, and whole pigs at the meat market are usually on the cheap side. Sarah

Just got back from a Hawaiian honeymoon. A good idea is to pass out the cheap plastic leis to every guest at your wedding and have them all stand in a circle wearing them while you and your husband have your last dance to Hawaiian music!

You could have a late afternoon, early evening wedding so that you don`t cook in the sun all day. Tiki torches can be bought fairly cheap to add some light, and some citronella oil will keep the bugs away. You can also buy some floating lilypads (fake ones) to put in the pool. Add a candle to the center of each lily pad for some romantic light. Throw some flower petels in there for ambiance. Each guest could hold a candle during the ceremony and you could do a luau afterwards with the roast pig and whatnot. To cut down on costs, you could do a potluck dinner as well if you wanted for salads and stuff. You could also look into renting some fake palm trees from a party vendor to add to the hawaiian feel. Anyways, have fun!

My sister in-law is using bamboo stalks and fabric to make a tent to put beverages and food under. I think that has a Hawaiin feel. An evening wedding at sundown would be pretty.

Aloha, i am from the islands and become very sad & offendedwen ppl use the typical stereotype of hawaii. I think you should splurge on some things to at least get a real taste of hawaii if you`re onna make it a theme of an important day. My boyfriend is hawaiian and i`m gonna incorporate some traditions because they are just beautiful. I`ll list wut i`d use in my wedding: pikake[pee-kah-kee] & ti leaf lei for guys b/c it looks quite charming. Exclude the pikake for men other than groom in the wed. Party. Female wears a haku [ha-koo] lei on her head or put you hair in french twist and tuck flowers inthe side with the seam of your hair. Or do wut us girls do everyday... Wear a hibiscus or plumeria or other flower in your ear. If you wonder in which ear i have a sweet explination. Wear it on the left, over your heart if you r taken. Right if u r single. But i was gonna start on the right and switch the flower to the left wen i am given away or wen thy say kiss the bride or wen they announce u r husband & wife or wen we turn to walk out the chapel.wenever appropriate for u. Then there`s the food. Ohh u have no idea wut u miss not being here. I`ll list the ono [ohh-no]=means delicious ] food.lomi lomi salmon. Poi add sugar to sweeten. Haupia [my fave dessert] kalua pig w/ cabbage if u like but tasty alone. Hawaiian beef stew . Rice u gotta have rice lau lau can`t forget that. I can go on but if you do some research youll find a site called ono recipes it`ll help. Welove eating lots of stuff from other cultures to cuz we r the melting pot of the pacific. Also check zippys.com. They have some food u can order online. Favors or centerpieces u can look up hawaiian wood bowls , good to keep fruits in kitchen, keys &pocket stuff on dresser. U know wut i ned to start a web page for all my ideas and sell hawaiian crafts i can do. Ohh. As the bride although it`s typical and a joke around here that you can tell wen a gil ain`t hawaiian wen she has janglly hawaiian bracelets i want me some hawaiian jewelry . I suggest plumeria designs. That`s it for now, tired. Email me if u got questions.
Aloha

Did you already get married? Did anyone send you any good ideas? My son is getting married on Kauai in April then coming back to Seattle for their reception with about 250 people. We`d like the reception to have a Hawaiian theme so we could use any ideas you have.
