Backyard Wedding (FEARS)
We are trying to plan our wedding to be held in ours & our neighbors backyard. I am so afraid that this is going to turn out like some back woods hodown that I am having trouble sleeping. We were thinking on serving meat & cheese trays (not sure what kind of bread to serve with meat) poatatoe & mac salads. They only alcohol there will be the Champagne for the toast. Not enough room to put up tables for people to sit at. I`m worried that our guest will not be comfortable sitting on a fold out chair trying to balance a plate of food. We also requested no gifts but told guest there wood be a honeymoon tree. I`m afraid guest will think this cheap of us but after combining two households into one there really isn`t any thing that we need. Was it wrong to mention the honeymoon Tree on the RSVP cards? (haven`t mailed them out yet) Any food advice or decorating tips would be great. Or if someone would like to e-mail me please feel free e-mail address is corinnej64@hotmail.com Thank you, 3rd times a charm bride. Corinne

Hello Corrine,
I am having an outdoor wedding in September and it was a concern of mine as well, the hoe down/shindig atmosphere. I am buying the bamboo lanterns that stick in the ground and use karosine/citronella and am spraypainting them white. I am using lots of tooling and want lots of white/champane color in the decorations to spice up the out doors. I have also bought some cheap silk flowers in autumn colors and will lightly dust the flowers with a bronze or copper spray paint to add a bit of glitter and minimize the cheap look of the flowers I bought. Some of the flowers will be intertwined with tooling. It is at my parents acerage so I am planting lots of flowers with bright autumn colors. I am still planning so if you have any ideas that you are tossing around or doing I would love to hear them. Good luck with the wedding plans. Natalie

If you want to make the food seem more elegant you could do a couple of things. Use crossants for the bread for the meat and cheese (Wal-mart sells them in their bakery by the dozen). Do chocolate dipped strawberries (buy strawberries from local grocery store and dip in chocolate candy making bars---can find in the baking section). Make brownies, cut them with a heart shaped cookie cutter and dust with powdered sugar. For the drinks, if you are going to do sodas or bottled water, you can purchase large galvenized buckets, fill with ice and put the drinks in them. Potted flowers in simple terracotta pots with ribbon tied around them would work for decorations. I might have a couple of tables, and then place extra chairs scattered around for people to sit. Also, some people might need a place to put a drink while they are munching on your delicious treats. Personally, I would go easy on the tulle, because too much can make it look cheap. Sometimes understated can be interpreted as classy. If you need more ideas.....let me know, I am doing a outside wedding on a very strict budget myself. Good luck!

I forgot to mention something that may end up really helping ya out......I would put together a basket that people can go to and use the necesary items....you will want to have unscented bug spray, sunscreen, and fans for everyone (depending on where you live). We are making fans by printing programs on the computer, then having them lamenated. We will then hot glue each one to a tongue depressor, adding some ribbon for personal touch. If you dont want to do a program, you can always print a nice poem or something on it. These fans are a must for us......since we live in Texas.!
