Terrible

I`m 16 and I have gotten the shot 3 times already. I really have the worst periods, very very heavy bleeding, and cramps to the point of fainting and vomiting. I have taken pills but my body just cannot handle them at all. Also progesterone but it does no good.. I`ve tried every pill, and every pain pill for my cramps but they make me terribly sick.
I`ve had bad reactions to the shot so far. I`m anemic but even more so now, everything that touches me leaves a bruise, I have trouble breathing. I`ve gained 20 pounds, my blood pressure has dropped and my regular doctor is worried about me. My nurse practicioner (ob/gyn) will not give me any other treatment for my period but I cannot take this anymore, or any other pill. This shot has not stopped my heavy bleeding at all, but it has lessened my bad cramps.
I`m going to get off of the shot after seeing all of the posts on here, and knowing that I`m not the only one with these reactions. I`m just going to have to load up on pain killers, maxi pads, and soy ice cream! lol

Sarah,
You mention soy ice cream, I too had terrible periods (though I am much older than you) but for my wedding I started drinking slimfast (hoping to lose weight) with soy protein and it straigtened out my periods. Then I did some reading and found out that if you get about 30grams of soy protein a day many girls have seen improvements . You could drink soy milk or whatever.

Have you tried acupuncture? If it`s a foreign concept for you it can seem frightening, but the needles are very, very tiny and it is relatively painless. It has helped many women find great relief from cramps and menstrual irregularites, you`d be amazed. Your health insurance may even cover it. Another suggestion- evening primrose oil. I have always had severe, debilitating cramps and after a few months of taking this supplement regularly, I hardly even have to pop a pain killer when my period rolls around! Good luck, I feel for you.
