I am not a wedding planner yet, but I plan to become one someday soon, once I can afford my own business. But I have began looking into how you can become a planner. The best way to start is to contact The Association of Bridal Consultants in New Milford, Connecticut (860-355-0464) and June Wedding, Inc. In Las Vegas, NV (702-474-9558). They are professional bridal consultant organizations, and they can send you info packets on the career. Also, some career developments schools offer certification in the field, PCDI is one. I would also pick up some books on wedding planning and read all you can read about it. Another great thing to do is to contact some planners in your area and "shadow" them for a day. My aunt does this for a living, and I got the perfect glimpse of everything that goes on from following her through a wedding for several months. The best advice that she gave me though is to make sure you love planning weddings, not that you love weddings. Some people think that weddings are so easy to do and theyre not! Its a lot of work and detail, and your not planning your own wedding, your planning another persons. But I wish you the best of luck, and stay out of Hartford, CT, thats going to be my area!! :)
