Games For Senior Citizens

Our senior g roup at church just had a picnic and I was in charge of the games. There were 22 people there, so it will be different for more. Bingo is always a favorite! I got a history quiz off the net on things that happened in the 40`s and 30`s. I gave silly prizes like Pepto bismol, Immodium, fibre, baby food with a silly note attached 0- To a goodsport, to use when things get tight, or to use when things are loose (anti diarrhea) It was a lot of fun. Be creative with your prizes! they loved it!
I had them write 3 0r 4 facts on a card about themselves, collected them. Then i read them and they had to guess who it was. This only woks if everyone knows each other.
I had a few pencil games ready but didn`t get time to lay them - match the capital to the state, State nick names - they supply the state - a lot of times restaurants have place mats with interesting stuff to do. We found one on slang in Appalachia. - mountain folk lore. We also sang the old songs we used to sing in school. I am 68 so you need an old song book. KKKKKKaty, whispering Hope, Dark Town Strutters Ball, Reuben Reuben, Man in the Flying Trapeze, etc. ON other occasions, we would have jars of candy, popcorn, etc., and they had to guess how many pieces were in the jar. Wjinner gets to keep the jar. Or, how many pounds is the watermelon? or how many oz. Is the canteloupe?
You can have them go on a scavenger hunt and find people to sign their list - Make up one - who has blue eyes, who has a Ford, who has been married 50 years, etc.
You could get a CD of old songs, 30`s or 40`s and play tunes for them to guess.
Another game which is a lot of fun for not too big a group - have them sit in a circle, they are playing hot potato, which is a box with slips of paper inside giving directions of things they must do. Consequences. Btk like a dog, meow like a cat, Howl like a wolf, hop like a bunny, dumb stuff like that. Put on a girdle, propose to the lady next to you, eat an ice cream cone, be creative. This is a lot of fun! Have dummies in it also like - this is a freebie, sit back and relax. Shake hands with your neighbor, hug your neighbor.
