Wedding Reception Question

This is my 2nd marriage & my mans 1st. We have been together for 10 years already & don`t need gifts.
My question is this - I`m thinking of how to have a nice reception (doing wedding & reception in same place) without going broke. I thought about putting on invites to share in our special day. Enjoy buffet dinner, music and laughter. In lieu of gifts please donate $25.00 towards festivities. What do you think? There will probably be around 100 guests.

Hi Chris,
I would not ask people to donate money toward the event. People might take offense to that if you invite them but they have to pay their own way. If you want cash (which can always go towards the bill later) instead of gifts, you can always say monetary gifts appreciated.
Also, most places are cheaper on Friday nights and Sundays. If you do a night event, like after 7, you can serve only appetizers and cocktails.
Most places will give a discount if you pay in cash or in full. Never be afraid to ask for a discount, they won`t offer one but they would rather take $500 off the price vs. Losing the business all together. Strike up a deal. I did all the sweet talking and my husband went in with the discount question. Worked every time!
If you need any help with your invitations please don`t hesitate to contact me. I customize invitations and work within any budget.
I hope this helps.
