There is no set amount, and many seniors are on tight budgets. You have to decide what you can afford and other factors would play into it also. How close are you to this grandson? I`m going to guess not very if you are asking how much you HAVE to give. My grandparents really never were able to afford much but they were most generous with both their time and money. My sister and I know that many times when they gave us that $100.00 for birthdays & $150.00 graduations (they gave me $500.00 when I went away to school) that they shouldn`t have but they always insisted. We knew that they loved us unconditionally and we them. My sister and I would take grandma shopping and we would help grandpa cut the grass or shovel snow. Whatever we could and we also loved to spend time with them. We were so lucky! Unfortuneately we lost them both within a year of each other. I know they would never be asking how much they would HAVE to give, they would be racking their brains to see how much they COULD give. If you can`t afford much make him something special with a photo of the two of you when he was a baby it will mean as much to him as a $1000.00 check. (It would have for us.) I just wish we had the chance to have them at our weddings we still miss them very much!
