Invitations - Money Saving Ideas

If you`re trying to save some $$, why not try doing the invitations yourself?

We looked into ordering them like everyone else. Here in Canada, with RSVP cards, envelopes, etc., they turned out to be something like $4 or $5 each. For 75 `kits` including an invitation, RSVP card, and envelopes for both, it was going to be at least $250 plus tax.

A bit much I thought! We`re mostly funding this thing ourselves, so we`re trying to cut costs.

I`m designing mine as a panel card, printing two on each 8 1/2 x 11 sheet of card stock then having the print shop cut them. When that`s done, we`re going to either emboss them with a gizmo you can order at the office supply store (here it`s about $50), or just stamp them with an attractive stamp that you can get in a in a lot of stores (WalMart for example, in the crafts section). Haven`t tried my stamps yet, just bought them today and I`m going to fiddle with them tonight.

RSVP cards, same idea except that four will go on one 8 1/2x11 sheet of card stock.

Anyhoo, buy some envelopes for both the whole package and the RSVP card (I`m still looking for some attractive ones), and you`re done. With tax, ours are going to cost about $75 for 80 invitations.

How about the rest of you? How much does it cost in the US for invitations?

I bought 250 wedding invitations on ebay for a total of $20. They aren`t engraved but you can print them yourself on your computer.

I made our invitations as well. What I did was go to a paper store and actually bought a kit. The kit came with 50 invitations, response cards and RSVP cards. All of them came with envelopes too. It also came with a CD to design the wording on the invitations. My total cost was $40 for 150 invitations and the cost of an ink cartridge and stamps. When I sent out invites people couldn`t actually believe I didn`t order them because they looked so professional.

Yes, I did see the kits at the stationary store as well. They were beautiful, and we were going to buy them. The only problem is, we don`t have a printer at home. The stationary store where I saw them, they do have a print/copy centre, but they said they couldn`t do them - they were embossed, and since they were 8 1/2x5 1/2, they`d have to be manually fed into a printer.

So this other idea is we`re doing instead. I think they`re still going to look pretty good. :)
