You better get off of the shot. I believe that it`s the devil. My sister was on it and it gave her symptoms like lupus...she even tested positive for the disease. She was retested 6 months after getting off of the shot and she was negative. A girl I work with has developed facial hair and infertility. Just a warning. This is the stuff the doctor`s don`t/won`t tell you. I`m serious, too. This is no joke. Please consider this.

I was on the shot a while ago.. For the first few months it was ok...but i think it was the 3rd time i was due for the shot i was constantly spotting for months until it wore off ...it kinda defeated the purpose for me...i have heard some horror stories and some good. I believe it all depends on the person and may not be right for you.

Get Off of it, although I have never been on it I have only heard horror stories, it will probaly make you gain a lot of weight too and who wants that. Go on the patch its easy and side effect free for the most part, the shot SUCKS

The depo shot has made me constantly bleed ever since I got on it a year ago. They keep telling me it should stop, but it hasn`t. I think the best step for me is to stop.

The problem with Depo Provera (for those who may not know what it is when people say "depo" is that when you get the `shot` you have no idea how your body is going to react and can only wait until it wears out of your system. It sounds to me like you are having an adverse reaction to the drug. I would recommend you DO NOT get the next shot. Talk to your physician about alternate birth control methods such as oral contraceptives (the Pill), the sponge or diaphragm (barrier methods - covers the cervix so that sperm can`t pass through), the new birth control patch (may not be available depending on where you live), or contraceptive foam. It should be noted that these can be used in combination but none protect against STD`s. Wearing a condom (female or male) may help increase your protection. I would strongly recommend staying away from DEPO or from IUD`s as well (an iud is a device inserted into the uterus - it aggravates the sides of the uterus so that a fertilized egg cannot implant. This has been known to cause permanent scarring inside the uterus which can cause infertility later). I would always suggest talking to a physician before starting any birth control plan and doing research, research, research. Good luck to you all!

I do think it all depends on the person. Yes at first I spotted a lot too. It takes time for your body to adjust but after that I was period free for 5 years. Sure, there was spotting here and there but usually for me it was when my shot was coming due. I loved the conveinence of not having to remember to take the pill. I have never heard of it giving people Lupos. Plus I think that is a type of disease that runs in peoples family`s. I stopped getting the shot last summer. It took awhile for my period to come back. But I am getting married and am going to want to start a family. If I wasn`t, I would have stayed on the Depo. Hope this helps!

I used to be on the shot about 2 year ago. For the first 3 months, I would have a period for 2 weeks, be off of it for a week and have another 2 week long period. It did this for the entire first 3 month shot. When I went back for my 2nd, I asked my doctor about it and she said to try 1 more shot. Once I got that 2nd shot, I never again had a period until I got off of it. Other than the period/spotting issue, I just want to warn you that I gained about 35 pounds over that winter. If you`re on the shot and getting your alterations done, wait until the very end, I would hate for you to pay to have the dress made to fit you now, and have to pay again to have the dress let right back out.

I took Depo for almost two years. For the first year I bled every day for a whole year, it was not just spotting, it was more like a regular menstrual period. I had no energy, was extremely enemic, gained about 30 pounds, and suffered from extreme depression. Into the second year I started to suffer from Lupus symtoms and complained to my doctor, she was not responsive and told me to ride it out and that I was too young to have Lupus. I was only 22 then, and Depo took me into a depression that I can`t describe. The depression and mood swings contributed to my divorce at 23. As soon as I stopped taking depo everything got better including my health and the mood swings went away. I am 30 now and more versed on birth control. I haven`t gotten pregnant since Depo so I don`t know if it affected my fertility. Some of the better methods if you are healthy would be othro-tricyclen -clears up any acne and doesnt make you gain weight or feel nauseous. You may also want to look into the ortho-evra patch, it was easy to use and didn`t irritate my skin the way the doctor said it might. Nuva ring is a new product, and you have to be comfortable with inserting it into your body, but the results are worth it. Anyway don`t be stupid the way I was, get off that and talk to another doctor if the one you have won`t listen to your complaints or questions.
Good luck.
Good luck.

The pill is 99.995 percent accurate if taken correctly for birth control. The problem with most women who get pregnant on the pill is that they don`t take it at the same time every day. You can not take it at 9:00am one day, 10:30 the next, 7:00 the next, 1:00 the next, etc. You need to take it at the SAME TIME EACH AND EVERY DAY. You have about a half hour window before and after your selected time. The hormone needs to stay at a constant level in your body, if it isn`t, you will ovulate and get pregnant. Other reasons why someone could get pregnant on the pill are antibiotics (they kill the hormone, you need to use alternate forms of birth control while on antibiotics. This includes medication for yeast infections), skipping a dose and then doubleing it the next day, the flu (if you are throwing up, the pill is released from your system before it has a chance to dissolve - alternate routes during bouts of the flu is to insert it into the vagina - yes, it dissolves there too - just make sure that you lie down to give it a chance to dissolve). Taken correctly, only one out of 10 000 women will get pregnant per year. Any questions can be directed towards a health care professional. Hope this helps.

They use this drug in some forgein counties as a form of canstation for male sex offenders to lower their urge for sex!!! Ladies, please....take it from another "victim" of this horrible drug. Yes, it sounds wonderfully convenient...no remembering to take a pill every day...no more periods... But the side effects are horrible. I, too like another person who posted suffered terrible depression...hated everything, hated everyone..was always miserable....and sex!!! Ha, I had ZERO desire for any sexual contact at all. Between no sex, mood swings and depression, it ended up causing my marriage!! Thats a hell of a price to pay for simply wanting the convience of not having to take that one little pill every night - which I did for 8 yrs prior - or put up with a period every 28 days(I have since remarried) Mood swings were constant....one minute happy, the next a raging mad-woman!!! My hair was falling out by the handful everyday in the shower. Fortunately, I did not gain any weight. Finally after 3 yrs and alot of research, I finally stopped Depo.....for a year after my last shot I had irregular bleeding. I would bleed for 1 day, then nothing for 60 days then bleed for 12 days then stop for 10 days and bleed again for 5 days and on and on this went until I couldn`t take it anymore!! I finally went on the pill and after 6 months of the pill, I stopped and got pregnant the very first month I was off the pill ( yeah!!! - my little boy is now 6 mos old)
Please, for your heath....find another form of birth control. THIS DRUG IS USED IN FOREIGN COUNTIES AS A FORM OF CASTRATION FOR SEX OFFENDER! Honestly, I`m not kidding....that alone should tell you something!

Yes it will settle down after about the first three shots my period stopped spotting all over the place and dissappeared completely. However I used it for about 4 years and have been off it for a little over 12 months trying for a baby and still have not concieved not sure if this is due to being on it so long.
