FIRST DANCE SONG? What Is Everyone Doing?

I know what EVERYONE is doing, but do you really want that? Any DJ service you call will recommend "Wonderful Tonight" or some other song that has been played a million times, and if you just want an easy song, a DJ service will have a lot of suggestions. But if you want something different, select a deep track from a CD from one of your favorite artists. My fiance and I are dancing to "Meant to Be" by the Squirrel Nut Zippers -- it`s romantic, sweet, old-fashioned but not old, and it`s not too long, so we don`t have to sway back and forth for eternity while everyone watches (we`re not very good dancers.) : )

We used `Yellow` by Coldplay and it turned out really nice. We also gave CDs as favors and used that as the first song. We also put the songs we used for special circumstances on the cd:
Our song - yellow
Bride/father song - Wonderful World (L.Armstrong)
Groom/Mother song - Kind and Generous (N. Merchant)
Entrance Song - Who do you love (Doors)
Last Song - At Last (E. James)

We also put "Bride`s Pick" as `She talks to Angels` (B. Crows) since my husband always plays that for me on his guitar and "Groom`s Pick" as `Wild Horses` (Stones) on the cd. I know, this is a lot of info but they are such good memories!!!

" Two Less Lonely People in The World" by Air Supply was our wedding song. A lot of the Air Supply songs are very romantic.

I think we are going to use "It Had To Be You" by Harry Connick Jr. From the "When Harry Met Sally" soudtrack. This was the song that he proposed to and it`s always been our theme song.

I was at a wedding where they used All I Want is You by U2. It was really nice and unique.

Hi Mandy - We are goin gto be using "This Very Moment" by KCI and JOJO. If you like R&B music please listen to this song. It is a BEAUTIFUL song and is perfect for a first dance.

We are dancing to "All I Want is You" by U2. My brother is the DJ and shortened it a bit for us. Neat to see someone else did the song, too. It`s also what is inscribed on his wedding bad (but shhh! he doesn`t know that).

My better half (David) is a huge Journey fan...and knowing him for 3 years, Journey grows on u...there are two songs we`re thinking of "When you love a woman" and "Faithfully", whether u have heard of them before, or just listened to them in the past, listen to them again..they are truly perfect for a first dance....everytime i hear the songs, and think about the wedding, my eyes begin to well up with tears...happy tears! =) give them a shot.

Mandy - We`re using Cross my Heart too! We originally were using When I Said I Do by Clint Black & his wife, but my fiance heard this song on one of my CD`s and we both agreed that it was THE song for us. Plus, I`ve loved GS forever!

We are using "God must have spent a little more time on you" by N`Sync as our first dance... This has been "our song" since I was 17.

When my fiance and I met, I was going through a very difficult time. Many men would have turned around and walked away, but he stayed by my side through it all, which is why I chose, "BY YOUR SIDE" - Sade.

We hired the bandleader who played during our first date five years ago and let him pick the first song. He chose to go with Gershwin`s "Embraceable You" and it was perfect for us, since we`ve caught his act numerous other times over the years and always liked how he arranged it for a smaller jazz ensemble with a male and female vocalist. Plus, it`s not as cliched and obvious as the usual Whitney Houston and Celine Dion crap that DJs typically play.

Then they launched into a smokin` rendition of Louis Prima/Keely Smith`s "Hey Boy! Hey Girl!" and the party went full bore at that point.

We are using "Everytime I close my eyes by Kenny G with Babyface. It may be found on Kenny G (The Moment) CD..."everytime I close my eyes I thank the lord that I`ve got you...and you`ve got me too..."

I know what you are talking abuot. My fiance didn`t have a "song" either, however we were still able to find one we both agreeded one. We are dancing to "The Luckiest" by Ben Folds. It is perfect for us and we ofund it by accident, my fiance bought the CD and it is the last song ont he CD, when he played it for me, we both cried. I know it is prbably stressful, but find something that is meaningful to youa nd you r future husband, not something that is nessecarily "popular". We WILL find it,and when you do yuo will know. Next year my husband & I will be celebrating our 20th. Anniversary...We danced to Stand By Me, wonderful song but very long. I went to a wedding in January and the couple chose...Where Are You Going by Dave Matthews Band, incredible and moving. There`s a couple of websites that you can log onto to view the most popular "first songs." I don`t want to offend anyone but "At Last" by Etta James ranks way up there. I`m debating between "True Love" originally by Patsy Cline, I believe, but the verson I would like is from the musical movie "High Society." It`s a duet between Bing Crosby and Grace Kelly (my all-time favorite actress). I was only able to find that version online and download it (illegally I guess). Now that the RIAA is waging war against downloaders I guess that option is out. My fiance actually really likes Sixpence None the Richer so I`m thinking about "Kiss Me." I think that song is available not only on their album but also on the Dawson`s Creek Soundtrack. I also love Faith Hill/Tim McGraw`s "It`s Your Love"...what a beautiful song (given their picture-perfect marriage) or even (and I hate to admit it) "From This Moment" by Shania Twain. I really can`t stand her but that song is truly gorgeous. I guess I just try to go for something that not a lot of people have used. My sister plans on having "In Your Eyes" by the ever-so-fabulous Peter Gabriel. Talk about a tear-jerker!

My husband and I used for our Christmas 2002 wedding "Rest of Your Life" it`s by a Hawaiian group called Na Leo. It`s the most beautiful song!!!! Everytime I hear it, it makes me cry. Definitely orginal. Everyone at my reception loved it!
