Wouldnt Alter!

I bought my dream dress at davids. I went back into the room so the woman could pin it for alterations (I am a 5 ft. Bride and the dress needed hemmed) She looks at me and says "I can not alter this dress" I asked why and she said "I would have to take the lace off the bottom and it would be as if I were making you a custom dress" My mom said "well we are buying it so after we buy it isnt it our right to do as we please?" The woman said "Yes but you cant do it here."
