Is it proper to give a gift to the person performing the cerimony?

They usually get a tip, but if you know them well enough a gift would be more personal.

How do you calculate the tip, and when or who is the best person do it?My friend got married at the same place, and she was tight on money so she didn`t tip. Is this considered a big NoNO?
