Faux Or Fake Cake How To & How Much$

Sept. 14 is our day, a faux cake will be displayed and we will serve the grooms cake. How do we get a fake cake and how much will it cost. Can we rent one?

Martha Stewart had a great idea for this once. Build your own adn then just have it iced. Go to a crafts store and buy the styrofome pieces and put them together either by glue or skewer sticks to hold them in place. When you have the shape that you want take it to a baker and just get it iced and then they will decorate it for you and everything. You might find that this is cheaper than buying a fake cake.

I make wedding cakes and I usually charge just a little less for dummies than a real cake. The styrofoam ends up being about the same price if not more than the ingredients for the cake. You do save time in not having to actually make the cake, but that is the only difference. I can see this being a more economical way to go if you wanted a really large cake, but didn`t want to have to deal with all of the cake after the reception. You could probably ice it yourself or see if you have a friend who could do it. Get a recipe for the frosting from www.wilton.com or www.earlenescakes.com. You could make it well ahead of the wedding just let the frosting crust (get completely dry and hard) and cover it up with a large plastic bag. (If you lived in really humid place this might be a problem- it don`t know I live in the west.) If you did it yourself you could probably make the cake like a 6 9 12 , 6 8 10 12 or 6 10 14 for about $30-$50 for just the styrofoam and frosting. You might have to invest $5-$30 in cake decorating supplies depending on what kind of cake you want. I hope this helps-if you have any questions about how to do this email me at beckyglou@yahoo.com.

Does any one know where Layla lives? We could break in and shave it`s eyebrows while it sleeps.

Poor dog! You should really find a less repulsive name, like Dahmer or Koresh or Binladin.

No we aren`t cheap we are going to serve the GROOMS sheet cake. The faux cake is great for the cameras. It`s hot in Ca. In Sept. Dismanteling a real cake will take up too much time and could spell a disaster. We rented the hall from 2 til 8 PM.with dinner and all the bride and groom goings on, I`m sure every thing will go as great as the faux cake looks. Even if we were cheap we will still have enough cake to serve the 200 guests plus drinks & dinner. Cheap is a good thing when it comes to a tasty Grooms cake Don`t you agree?

Do vegitarians eat faux cake?

Supernan, don`t be annoyed by Layla, "she" only exists in "her" own head.

A Faux Cake is a great idea!
My husband and I had the first layer (the largest bottom layer) of the cake as a real cake.
The 2nd and 3rd layer were faux. They looked just like the bottom layer that everyone ate.
The layers were seperated by upside down wine glasess with roses in the cup portion of the wine glass.
It had a dove centerpiece on top.
Of course it was made of styrophome and royal icing.
Years and Years after our wedding we have the original 2 top layers of the cake to remember the big day with.
You wouldnt be disappointed having a faux cake,
No matter how rude people can be about it!

FAKE CAKE SOUNDS GOOD. I AM ALSO FROM CALI AND AM THINKING OF DOING THE SAME THING FOR MY WEDDING BUT HAVING A VERY DIFFICULT TIME FINDING A VENDOR. HAVE YOU FOUND ONE YET??? I AM NOT CREATIVE ENOUGH TO MAKE MY OWN. PLEASE LET ME KNOW WHEN YOU FIND ONE.

Hi, I`ve been reading your message about finding a vendor to make your fake cake. I will do it. I made my sisters wedding cake...a real one. And I will be making a fake wedding cake for my wedding in December. I will be starting it soon, then storing it until the big day. Then I will have the caterer make sheet cakes to serve so I wont have to worry with anything that day. I have made many cakes in the past and I love it. I also love making gourmet desserts. I am a self taught artist who has found joy in making DETAILED wedding cakes. So let me know if you need one made I will be happy to !
I also make custom wedding invitations, very different from other custom ones. Heavy paper, and different flares!!

I make faux wedding cakes for retail store`s for display and currently have a 3 tier on Ebay.com under photo props. It is a very pretty cake and you can decorate with silk flowers in your colors. I can also make the cake with satin ribbons and/or bows in your colors. Completely non-edible (not royal icing as most faux cakes are made of). Check it out and email me if you have any questions.

Hey I think a fake cake is a great idea! Plus, you can always keep it in a curio cabinet in your dining room with your wedding invitation, and wedding bouquet. Besides, it`s easier to cut a slab of cake rather than to dismantle a cake with a bunch of tiers. For anyone here wanting to do a fake cake and then order a slab of cake to serve, good for you!!!!

This is exactly what I had in mind. I want a fake cake and a real piece to cut. I think it is the best thing to do. Cheaper is definatly a plus when it comes to a wedding. But how DO you have this done?
