Wedding Contests

What do you guys think about the wedding contests that the local tv stations hold, the `TODAY` show and others have? I`m thinking of signing of for them, but they just will not give you any say so on any of the things to be included in the wedding. Right now, money is really `tight` and these things would be a god-send, but I`ve always visioned my mother and I picking my wedding dress....tell me what you think.

You can find VERY affordable dresses on ebay We are talking designer gowns and things for under $300.00 I found one that I would have bid if i weren`t in the process of major dieting it was 49.00 still had the tags and all.... It is possible to have a lovely wedding on a minimal budget (i`m planning mine right now). Skip the flowers as decoration and just have them for the bridal party and altar. Use candles instead (buy bulk.) Go through untraditional places like orientaltrading.com for your favors. I bought some lovely, elegant, favors for 4.95 for 50. Wedding sites sell the same thing for 12-20.00 same quantity.... If you have lots of time still, watch the sales. Michael`s is a craft store in my area and they frequently offer coupons for 50% off. Get a bunch of papers if you store does the same thing and recruit family or friends to go buy a specific item. Craft stores have huge wedding supplies. Make your invitations on your computer or hand make them Get a calligraphy book from the library and practice or if you have pretty handwriting don`t even go that far.... Cutting costs whereever possible makes a cheap wedding possible while maintaining elegance. Instead of a huge cake get a smaller one and buy a sheet cake too, this way you can serve the sheet cake and save 100`s. No one will mind. Hire a friend to play the music. Don`t have a meal reception, just go with champane and cake... Have a potluck for your rehersal dinner...etc... There are lots of ways to cut costs. Remember your family and friends would love to help make your day special. Ask for help, brainstorm, i`m sure lots of folks you know have skills you could use. Ask they help with something in leui of a gift...etc =0) Good luck!

I entered a radio version of the contest and won! I got to pick my own dress though...It is worth trying for-it saved us a ton of money and we were able to splurge on our guests with the money that we saved on other things. The place wasn`t my first choice, but turned out to be absolutely beautiful! The reception was amazing too! My dj was a little cheesy and the flowers were only ok, but to save thousands of dollars was teriffic! Think of it this way-enter....if you win you were meant to get it and if you don`t then that is for a reason too. Good luck!
