Wedding Gift Registry
Hi everyone:
OK, so I know nothing about wedding gift registries, I hope that someone out there does.
Question 1: Is it appropriate to register at more than one place? While I want typical household stuff and registered at Sears for that sort of thing, I also want a camping/recreational stuff from a Canadian Tire sort of place. Is this OK?
Question 2: Is it appropriate to register for more expensive things, that more than one person could go in on? I don`t want people to think I`m greedy or whatever, but there are more costly things that I`m eyeing. Of course Sears says it`s fine, as they want to make money. But what does the real world think?

Kimberley,
I think it is alright if you register at more than one place. I personally dont know where you are from, but In Toronto, Canada here, I have registered at a few places. I feel it gives your guests moer Idea`s of things to buy, especially if your guest is a man, I found registering at a Canadian Tire or "MAN-TYPE-Store" Is easier for them to shop at. This was you leave options open for more of your guests.
As for putting expensive items on your list, I say why not. The worst that can happen is that you dont get it. I`ve gone to a weding where at "The Bay" they registered a set of Royal Dalton dishwear. I personally didn`t pick them up because they are WAY over priced. Although If you were to invite a Husband-wife team or a group of friends, they may pick that up and a few little extra`s as well (ex. Glasses, or what have you). I personally think this is a great Idea.
Good luck sweetie!

I have been invited to showers where they have registered at three and more places. As far as the prices, I`ve always been under the impression you should have a wide variety of price ranges. I myself have made up baskets of kitchen gagets and towels with things on their registries and have spent about $65.00 when all done but it was a lovely basket with all things she asked for, pizza cutter, potato peeler, spatulas, pot holders, placemats etc. On the other hand (same Bride) had registeres at Marshall Fields for her china which was $100.00 a place setting. I noticed her grandmother, the grooms parents and a couple aunts bought them for her. So I say anything goes! Have fun, and ask for what you want.

My Fiancee & I have choosen to register at a variety of places & for a variety of items to give us a greater selection & our guests a greater selection as well. We registered with www.weddingchannel.com& www.theknot.com as well as J.C.Penney`s, Sears,Wal-Mart,Meijer`s Target & Pier 1. If you give your guests a greater choice they`re more than likely to pick items that you`ve registered for & things they would have choosen for you as well.
Hope This Helps

I feel like dummy...but how do you get the word out about where you registered? This isn`t something you put on the invitation? I was thinking about grandparents and relatives out of town.

I`ve gotten invitations for showers where it is just hand written on the invites and more recently where cards are included from various places I think Sears was one. It is appropriate to include with the shower invites. As far as getting the word out, either word of mouth, or in family cases no matter where they are you should send a shower invite. My aunt surprised my sister at her shower traveling 1200 miles!

Thanks everyone for the input on this. I feel much better about the whole thing now! While Sears is handy because it`s all over North America, they don`t have all the stuff that we want, so it`s good to know that we can register at more than one place!
Jennie, to answer your question, I`ve been told that it`s considered inproper to include anything about gifts on a wedding invitation. You`re supposed to rely on family (especially moms) to get the word out on where you`re registered and/or what you want.
But please, before all of you who ARE including such a line on your invite bash me over the head, whatever you choose to do is FINE. This is simply what WE are doing! :)

Kimberly,
It is improper to include any information regarding gifts on wedding invitations. I am sorry I did not realise you were asking about the wedding invites. Here in the midwest (chicago area) most brides register, for their showers, and it is acceptable to include registry info with shower invites. Here almost 100% of wedding guest give envelopes with money for the actual wedding.Sorry for the misunderstanding. You are right Ms. Manners would NEVER let you include gift information to go out with the wedding invitations!

Thanks...although, it still doesn`t solve my problem. My mom is uninterested in helping (she has a difficult time organizing/socializing), my in-laws are divorced and not wanting to get involved, my bridesmaids are out of state! If I want a shower or a bacholorette party, I have to plan it! I will probably forget both and just concentrate on the wedding. But I will definitely keep the registry out of the invitations. (Forgive the whining, I have one and a half more months till the big day!!)

No no, you had it right the first time. I wasn`t asking about putting a line about gifts on my invite, my question regarded registering at more than one place. Someone else asked the invitation question, which I answered myself in a previous post the same way you did - don`t do it! :)

Jennie,
You poor thing, I feel so bad for you! No one should be feeling like this six weeks before your wedding! Have you talked to your Mom and told her how important this is to you?(Though you shouldn`t have to tell her.)Are there sisters on either side, I would think they would want to throw you a shower. Maybe someone is going to surprise you. I hope so, if not keep your head up and keep smiling your marrying the love of your life and it will be downhill from here on out! Hopefully everyone will then just give you CASH...and you can buy what you want/need!
Good Luck! Wish I could help!

Thanks Jemmie...no sisters and mom just asked me if I still had the reciept for my wedding dress (that my soon to be husband helped me pick out)...But I am approaching the one of the most happiest moments of my life (besides meeting him :0) And your kind message just gave me a much needed spurt of energy to keep planning, and nudge to keep up a happy outlook!
