~ How Do I Plan An Engagment Party?!?! ~

I have been reading about wedding and such and have hear about engagment parties?! Is this a regular thing?! How do you throw one, Where do you throw one? Who do you invite!?

Is this a formal thing or is it more of a BBQ type of thing.

My daughter is getting married in August of 2005 and would like an engagment party, what is an appropriate time to give an engagment party, announcing her engagment? I think about six months before the actually wedding takes place is a good time to give an engagment party, my daughter says a year before the wedding is ok to give an engagment party? What is the appropriate amount of time to give an engagment party?
