30th Birthday Party Poker/Sports Centerpieces
I am having a big 30th birthday party for my husband. He wants to have sports themed poker party. I am running out of ideas of how to decorate to incorporate these two themes. I am also drawing blanks on the centerpieces. It is going to be a big outdoor event so I want it to look nice, I don`t want it to look cheap. I am having the event catered so I need some table ideas and other decoration ideas. I bought some white lanterns but so far thats all. Any ideas would be extremely helpful. Thanks in advance!!

Hi Trina:
This is a hard one! I think you will need to pick one (sports) or the other (poker) if you want a "theme." You probably know that men don`t care about decorations at all -- it`s all about the food!! That aside....here are my suggestions:
(1) Since it`s a 30th birthday, I would go with THAT and forget the sports/poker theme---(more on that later). There is a place called Design Cutters -- look it up on the web. He makes custom "cutouts" from styrofoam. You could get a "Happy 30th" one made and put that on the food table. They aren`t cheap, though, about $35 for just 1. If that it too costly, you could always get large wooden numbers (a 3 and a 0) from a home center and paint them and them put them in some kind of holder and use that on the food table.
(2) For the table centerpieces...here is an idea...do you have kids? Why not take a picture of your kids holding up the numbers 3 & 0 - or a "Happy 30th Dad". Get them developed (or print yourself) in a 5 x 7 size and then put these in acrylic holders -- the see through holders that you see at restaurants. They sell them at office supply stores (I just saw these the other day). That way you could have the same picture on both sides so everyone at the table could see. Then when it gets dark, you can replace the pictures with the lanterns.
(2) Do you have a place to display a banner? That would be another idea. I ordered a custom banner from ebay for my son`s wedding. It was custom made and with shipping it cost me $33. Many sellers on ebay will do what you want. That way, next to the Happy 30th (and your husband`s name) you could have some sports or poker things painted. Of course, the more you customize, the more the price probably goes up but most sellers are willing to work with you.
Good luck!
