Bridal Shower

I am an only child and the Mother of the groom. What is the ediquette for showers, being I have no family to give one?

My niegbors son got married in Las Vegas , before the wedding his Mom gave her future daughter in law a shower which I attended and took a very nice gift now his parents are giving them a celebration reception at our Club House, do we take other gift. Your reply welcome
