A couple of ideas.

Since your son will be doing service with and for disabled veterans, why doesn`t he take pictures of different vets and display their pictures on a board? Possibly, some of them will even give him some medals to display? He could write a little story about each one and place it with the picture.

For centerpieces....I wouldn`t go with camoflauge or "military green." That`s too much just Army. I saw on the web where you can order an "armed forces complete miniature flag kit." They were not too expensive. That way, you are not putting any "service" higher than other. It is a small (miniature) display of all the flags of the branches of service with a small American flag in the center. Then you could just play off of the "American" theme if you wanted with red, white and blue.
