Dreaming Of White Wedding Turned Reality

Pleas help! I live in LA and have rented a banquet hall that has a renaissance feel to it...at least that`s what it seems like to me. It has huge paintings of kings and queens on the walls and has a lot of decor included. I am on a budget so I don`t have the luxury of covering up the paintings with tulle like I originally wanted to do. It does however have a beautiful chandelier in the center ceiling.
Here is where I need help. ..I always envisioned a white wedding. The food is served family style so there will be at least 27 appetizers on the table so you are limited with centerpiece height and width. The hall supplies the linens so I chose ivory since the other colors they had available looked completely tacky. I have hired someone to do the centerpieces although now it seems that I have to tweak that idea since it originally involved tealights hanging from branches with crystals and two round bouquets. Apparently, lit candles are not allowed. I come from a culture that likes following tradition and while I want to incorporate all that into my wedding I would like it to be different in a way that fits into my budget. I need ideas on how to bring it all together well. I like the branch centerpieces with white flowers but I don`t want to take away from an elegant feel. The centerpieces will be made but I need someone to actually decorate the rest of the place. I need really classy favor ideas and something else to bring the whole look together at a very reasonable price. I always liked tulle on the ceilings but at $1300 as I was quoted by one vendor it is too much. I realize that this may not make that much sense but if anyone has done a white wedding theme or can recommend someone affordable in LA to help put the ideas together, I would really appreciate it. I know there must be something out there that I can do that will just bring the whole look together, I`m just not sure what it is. If anyone can help, I would be happy to send a link to the hall`s website to get a better idea.

Thanks for reading and possibly helping.

Hi Emma:
Congratulations on your upcoming wedding! I hope I can help you with a few suggestions! Was it a typo when you said that there would be 27 appetizers on the table? Do you mean on each table? Wow! That is a lot of plates/dishes....or did you mean that there would be 27 appetizers on a specific talbe. In any case, that is not what you asked about.

Here are my suggestions:
(1) First, don`t try to COVER UP the pictures in the room. Unless you have oodles of money to pull this off, with perhaps covering all the walls, I don`t think you will get the effect you want with putting tulle over the pictures. Actually, I think that will bring more attention to them. Just go with the room the way it is...it sounds really different.

(2) You say that you want a WHITE WEDDING, but then you chose ivory table linens. That is the first place I would start. Have white table linens, white cloth napkins, and white chair covers if they are available. If not, you can rent them. I think this would make the room look classy.

(3) Then, for the centerpieces.....again, keeping with the WHITE WEDIDNG THEME....why not get the tall Eiffel Tower Vases in white. You can get these many places. Check the web. They are really tall and skinny and come in heights from 12" up to 32". Since they are so tall and skinny, you don`t need a lot of flowers in them. I would go with 4-5 white roses (or any other white flower that you like) and some greens. If you want a little more sparkle to play off the chandelier you can add some crystals in the form of "crystal bead branches." Again, check the web to see these.

(3) Since you can`t have candles, why not light up the Eiffel Tower Vases? There is a product called floralytes sold online. These are little battery operated lights that fit inside the eiffel tower vases. They come in a variety of colors, but, again, go with WHITE.

(4) If you still want more light in the room....go buy large silk trees sold at various retailers and decorate them with little white lights.

With this look, I would hope that you would acheive your desired WHITE WEDDING and it wold look classy and elegant.

Good luck!

Hello,
I must say I agree with the person that just posted above before I did. Go with the pictures on the walls and leave them just like they are. It really does sound different.

Wonderful post by Gail. I would just add that if you are really going for that fairytale / Cinderella feel and you can get the ceiling lit and draped for $1300, it would have a BIG impact on the room.

In addition, this is just a personal thing, but I feel that using the various "shades" of white looks richer and more elegant than simply sticking to bright white all the way, so I would probably indeed bring in some ivory like you have done. (I also think the softer white sounds a little more in tune with your venue.) But definitely, if you want BRIGHT white, go that route for linens.
