Alternative To Unity Candle

I have been really struggling for a unique idea for a "unity candle". My wedding is outdoors, at the top of a pass in New Mexico and the candle idea just wasn`t going to work. I searched high and low on the net and came up with a GREAT idea that I love. There is a thing called the Rose Ceremony, I just altered it a little bit.

My parent`s and his parents will both carry a red rose as they are taken to their seats (symbolizes love, but you can pick your own flower). After a few words from our Officiate, my future sister in law will then say a few words that we came up with as to what the roses symbolize to us as the parents hand us the roses. My Fiance and I will then tie them together with a ribbon as she, again, talks of the symbolism, and hold it together as she finishes up her words. She will then take it to hold for us until the end of the wedding where she announces us Husband and Wife. We will then hold it together as we go back down the isle.

This is a great way to incorporate your family who isn`t in the wedding, but you would like them to be. ALso, it isn`t as insulting as the guest book person =)
