Reception & Menu Ideas Needed
We are having a small wedding with about 25 of our closest friends and family. Our reception dinner is tables end to end, with platters and bowls of food, just like a big family dinner. Nothing stuffy or stuck up at all. Our colors are green and cream, so we`d like some ideas on what kind of centerpieces would look nice. Our ceremony is outside at sunset, so candles are a must. Also, we`d like some menu ideas for a southern type sit down meal......fried chicken, corn on the cob....things like that. Thanks alicia_dickerson@yahoo.com

I suggest a great book called Simple Stunning Weddings by Karen Bussen available at Boarders. I like her one quote. The first of her 10 simple stuning truths is " Simple in not the same as cheap. " You can still have a stunning look on a budget and using simple stunning harmonious details and themes. I highly recomend this book to you and I would also recomend a Paula Dean Cookbook to you as well. I`m sure you will find some great ideas and turn your wedding into an event. Use your imagination and wow your guests.

Hi Alicia:
What you have planned sounds great! I just love to decorate for weddings! Here are some thoughts.....
I am assuming by "tables" you are meaning the long banquet type tables. Since they seat 8 per table, you will need about 3-4 to accommodate your guests. I think it always looks nice to have 2 centerpieces on these long banquet tables -- it evens it out a little better, especially since you are placing them end to end.
With that in mind, also remember that these tables are only 30 inches wide (across the table), so you don`t want to do too much in the way of centerpieces. Your guests will have their plate, a beverage, etc. Plus you will also be having the food ON the table....so....not a lot of room.
A couple of centerpiece ideas that I have:
(1) have green table linens and have IVORY LANTERNS as centerpieces. You can find these by going to EBAY and in the search box type in "ivory wedding lantern" and you will see what I mean. I don`t know if you are familiar with EBAY, but if you want to purchase them make sure you look through all of the sellers. There are many people selling the exact same thing and the prices can vary widely.
Another idea would be to do the opposite. Have IVORY table linens and do a container (jar type) candle in green. You can find lots of sellers for these. Again, go to EBAY and type in "euro venetian candles". These are glass jar candles that come in a variety of colors - green being one of them. You can always go with votives, but I think you would need LOTS of these and with the food...hmmm.....not sure. Also, if there is any kind of breeze these may not work out.
Good luck!

You can order inexpensive roses from Sam`s. Clip them short. Put in clear glass vases. Drape sage colored chiffon from vase to vase. Use pillar candles in between. Another cute idea is to use pieces of sour apple bubble gum balls in clear glass vases. We put glass over the opening of the vase and sat the short pillar candle on top. It was very inexpensive and quite cute. You don`t have to sit the candle on top of the gum vases if it makes it to high. Sit candles on mirrors.
