Hello! I`m getting married August 9 and have rented a flower garden for our wedding, I made a mistake by renting it before I knew our guest list had 600 people on it. This place will hold about 235 for the reception inside and out. I`ve found an old building that will hold about 325 comfortably but it is 15 miles away and it being Texas if we serve dinner 15 miles away at 7:00pm that means we would have to get married at 5:00pm,FYI it`s usually 100degrees at that time but I love the flower garden because I`m spending a good chunk of change on photography. Yes I could ask for both families to cut back on the list but he wants a big party but my parents are paying for everything but alcohol and rehersal dinner.Suggestion?

I`m getting married August 23, 2003. The wedding will be in my backyard under a tent with 70 people. It has some Wizard of Oz undertones, as that is my favorite movie. I`ll be wearing ruby slippers with my dress!

I will be getting married august 23, 2003, i am marrying a fire captain so that is was i based the wedding around. I have plastic red and white firemans hats that I am drilling a hole in the top of so a balloon bouquet can come out of the top. By the way, the ruby shoes under the wedding dress is a cute idea!

This is for Crystal-
Remember, this is YOUR day. Don`t do something you don`t want to do because you`re being pressured. It`s supposed to be the happiest day of your life, not the most stressful. So tell people who are bugging you to plan their own wedding and leave you alone! They`ll get over it in the end, and everyone will have a great time doing it the way YOU planned-trust me. And don`t forget to BREATHE!!!

To Lisa - thank you for your kind words. I re-read my posting and boy, I must have been having a really bad day! Really, things are not going all that bad. At first we had a few "minor" issues....
- one set of parents not coming because we had chosen to not get married by a minister
- another parent was upset w/ the hotel prices (we are getting married in Banff, Alberta, Canada - a major tourist town)
- an Aunt was upset because of the fact we were not having a "traditional Ukranian wedding"

But since all that happened, my fiance and I sat down and had a good long talk and agreed that this is really for us - they had their chance to get married and do it the way that they wanted. He was so sweet - he said he really didn`t care how or where we got married - he just wants to be with me. (ahhhhhhhhhhh) We resolved the minister issue (now we`re getting married by a minister - not the denomination they prefer but it`s a happy medium), told my one parent that if they didn`t like what we were doing they were welcome to decline the invitation (I had already negotiated a 30% discount at the hotel - the hotel is nothing extravigant), and decided to have an "open house" next summer to get all the relatives not invited to the wedding together.

Thank you for your kind words, Lisa. I have a great bridesmaid (though she lives 2 provinces away) that gave me a bit of advise and always gives me an ear should I need it. She also told me that when I started feeling that nothing was progressing as far as plans to sit down and write a "to-do" & "to-done" list - all of a sudden I realized that a lot more had been accomplished than I realized - I could stop panicing. The wedding is 15 weeks away and now that the big stuff is taken care of I`m really starting to enjoy planning all the little details. My mother-in-law-to-be is becoming quite a nice help (my mother lives on the other side of the country so her help is very limited), my brides maid has started sending me little tid-bits of traditional information to incorporate into the day, other g/f`s have helped me with ideas to personalize the day - it`s great!

So what are you doing to personalize your day and make it just that little bit more special?

Have a GREAT day....

To Crystal-
I`m glad things have calmed down and are in better perspective for you! You asked what we were doing to make our day special; well, I`m a big fan of the Wizard of Oz movie, so I`ll be wearing ruby slippers that are being dyed as we speak and await my finishing touches. Also, we`ll be recessing down a yellow brick road when we leave the ceremony. We are both a bit Irish, so our wedding bands will have the trinity knot on them-they`re being handmade so they`re expensive, but hey-they`re forever! Our wedding is in my backyard; we`ll be having 70 people and it`s supposed to be fun and casual, not stressful!! He is my high school sweetheart, although we`ve been out of HS for 16 years and just reconnected last year. It`s a fairytale story, so we thought we`d keep the wedding grounded in contrast! Plus, we`re paying for it, so we need to keep things in perspective here, too. Thanks for inquiring-it`s fun to share ideas and info. Enjoy your day!

I am getting married August 16th as well. We are having a fairly large reception (200 people). We are almost finished with the plans, but we are stuck on favors if anyone has any ideas. It is fast approaching! Hope you are all having as smooth a time with the arrangements as I have been. I can`t believe it has all fallen together so well wihout many snags. After hearing all the horror stories I thought the whole wedding planning process would be much more difficult.

My name is Chantel. Like yourself i`ll be getting married in August but in 2004. I live in South Africa, so it `s going to be a winter wedding. My colours are ice blue, white and silver. The theme is butterflys. I think a person should keep it simple. The plainer you keep things the more elagant things are.
Please e-mail me back and let me know what your plans are, i need as many tips and ideas as i can get. If i dont speak to you before your wedding best of luck and may your partner and yourself be as happy as you can be.

Dear chantel,Your wedding sounds beautiful. I`m doing a butterfly wedding in august of 2003. I`m going to have a blown glass butterfly cake topper. I`ve found a tiara with butterflies along with the matching serving utensils, ring bearer`s pillow, toasting glasses, guest book and pen. If anyone is interested in where I`m getting my butterfly things, you can e-mail me at princesskimberly@woh.rr.com. Also, I`ve found some butterfly balloons, disposable cameras, and blown glass butterflies that can be engraved as gifts.

Hi Teresa,
Well, now that I`m not so paniced and have done my "to-done" list, I am now able to realize that all the hard work is paying off. These are our plans. My fiance (his name is Gilles) and I are getting married on August 6, 2993 in Banff, Albert in the very beautiful Cascade Gardens. We have invited only 22 guests - just our closest family and a couple of special friends. We will be surrounded by beautiful flowers, gazebos, a winding stream from the surrounding mountains and bridges. I`ve got my gown on order though it won`t be in until 3 weeks before the wedding. WE are planning the ceremony to be quite casual but still are attempting to have some traditional aspects. Instead of a formal bouquet, I will hold 6 white roses that have red tips on them. When I get to the front, my fiance will give me one solid red rose. We both have a child (boy and girl) so instead of getting the mothers corsages we are having the children give a single long stem rosed to each mother. My father will be walking me down the "isle" with no music, just the birds in the background. We`ve booked a beautiful hotel in the heart of downtown Banff for ourselves and recommended that our guests stay there also ( we negotiated a 30% discount on the room rates). We found a very unique restaraunt that is located in the old train station. It has been decorated to look like the inside of an antique train car. For a dance we will go to a gazebo by the river to have an intimate moment. We are really looking forward to the day - I hope yours is as special as ours will be for us....

Hi, ladies!

I am getting married August 2nd, 2003 in Charleston, SC at the beach. I am so excited. We found a house to rent last night, so we will be having the reception there and on the beach. This is a second wedding for both of us, and we both have children which we`ll be incorporating into the wedding. His son will be his best man, his daughter will be my maid of honor and my son will walk me down the aisle. He is a wonderful fellow, and I am so happy to be joining our families. We`re just keeping things simple and it`s going to be nontraditional. People keep saying, "You need to do this.:" etc. I just say okay. Okay. And do what I want! That way they can say what they like, and I can still be in control. It`s working so far, and people and their ideas are UNBELIEVABLE!! They all want to tell you what to do. Good luck to you all!!

Well ladies August is creeping nearer and all of us are hopefully well on the way to the completion of our wedding plans.
I have a beautifull princess dress, it is white and has loads of ruffles, sequins and a long trail or is it train (ha ha ) well you know what I mean anyway, I have 5 bridesmaid so far but that could change, I am getting married at our local registery office and then going on to the local church for our blessing, we are using a 1955 plymouth savouy (american car) for the day which belongs to freinds of ours.
There are about 150 guests attending, I keep my fingers crossed that the sun shines all day that day and your special days to ladies.
Please tell me how all your plans are going, I love weddings and chatting about them.
Lemon, white and possibly cream are my colours for the day, the sun shinning on these colours will look fantastic.
Ok thats it for now please drop me a line and let me know how its all going for you.
BEST WISHES and GOOD LUCK to all of you.

Hi, I`m not getting married but my daughter is...on August 30th. I`ve been kind of a coordinator for friends` weddings through the years and i`m really wanting HER day to be extra special. I would appreciate some fun reception tips. I have found that sometimes the receptions can be quite boring and I really don`t want that to happen at hers. Thanx alot!!! Dana

I`m getting married August 2nd, `03 in Charleston, SC. We`re getting married on the beach. We`ve rented a house for the week. It`s a second wedding for the both of us. We`re planning a light, fun ceremony. The boys (one mine and one his) will be wearing matching Hawaiian shirts and his daughter will be my maid of honor in a sundress. We found the cutest invitations that have beach chairs and are serving seafood at our beach reception. I am really looking forward to that day and our many days to come! How about you?

I really enjoy reading all the replys. Is this odd that the mother of the bride is replying here? My daughter is too busy walking around with lovey eyes to concentrate on her wedding. We are very close, though, and she trusts me and I wouldnt do anything without running it by her anyway. I really enjoy the different things that people do to make their weddings special.
