Trying To Plan A Wedding On $5,000!

Hey everyone! I am trying to plan a wedding in Baltimore, MD with a budget of $5,000. If anyone has any cost cutting tips, I would love to hear them. I`ve always dreamed of my wedding day and to not have it would be heartbreaking.
Thanks!

I don`t know what your budget is for table decorations and souvenirs (if any) but my candle containers can serve both purposes, thereby saving you lots of money. Please visit my website, www.littlesouthernlites.com. You can select from what`s already designed or, if you have something else in mind, just tell us what you want and we`ll design and send you a sample for your approval. There`s no obligation. LIttle Southern Lites can be used on your tables, and then your guests can take them home as keepsakes. The little ones are 3" tall, and scattered around the table with a larger one (various sizes) in the center would be beautiful.

A Wedding for $5000.00 can happen. I am currently working a wedding on a budget for $4000.00. Give me a call I will help however I can.

Shannon, you can create a beautiful and memorable event on your budget! I am a former wedding planner and would be happy to discuss ideas with you. All I need is a little more information about your event...number of guests, type of location, etc.

Tracy,
I would love to pick your brain for some ideas. Location really isnt a huge deal for us. We would like for it to be somewhat close to home and ideally we`d like to have the ceremony and reception at the same place. As far as guests, I`m thinking around 150, but of course that number can be tweaked.

Do you have a date yet? Planning during the wedding "off season" is drastically less expensive. Are you thinking of something formal, intimate, outdoors, in a church....? What size of wedding (# attendants, style of reception)?
When you close your eyes and picture your wedding, what do you see?

We dont have a date yet, so having a wedding during the "off season" is a really good idea. I actually dont see a church wedding...receptionwise, something formal, but not black tie formal, more intimate, but room to dance. Dancing is very important. There will be 5 attendants. (We have a rather large group of friends). They will all be purchasing/renting their attire.

Even though you don`t have a specific date you should start planning and buying things. This will keep you a step ahead of the game. You can buy things like the weddings favors. Think about a color theme and so on.

I`m on a tight budget as well, so one thing that I am doing is making the invitations myself. I made my Save the Date cards through Vista Print (vistaprint.com) and got like 100 postcards for $24.95. I`ve gotten lots of compliments on them already. The paper for my invitations I got from www.paperandmore.com. They are one of my new favorite places - great prices, great customer service and fast shipping.

Good luck with your planning.

Shannon,
You might want to consider having the wedding at a facility that is designed for events. I got married in December in the parlor of an 1800`s home designed for special events. Since it was the holiday season, they already had it decorated - saving me money! The only decorations I provided were on the reception tables. It was simply two door hangings (already put together with holly, berries, ribbon, etc) crossed with a candle holder from Big Lots in the center. At that time of year, we found great deals on candles, greenery, etc. At places like Hobby Lobby, Michael`s or other crafty stores. They tend to run items 50% off quite often during that time. As our favor, we gave each guest a snowflake ornament for their own holiday tree - purchased in bulk from Oriental Trading. We used an artificial tree that we already had, and set it up with simple clear lights, red ribbon and the snowflake ornaments. Each person took theirs off the tree before going home.

Spring/Summer is also inexpensive if you are willing to go outdoors. Park rentals are cheaper than a facility. You can go very "natural" with fresh picked flowers from a friends garden, natural light instead of candles, etc.

If any of these appeal to you we can always bounce around more ideas depending on your taste.

Tracy,
Those ideas sound great. I loved the idea of the Christmas tree with the ornaments as favors. Its decoration and a favor all in one!! I was considering an outdoors wedding...the ever unpredictable weather is always scarey though, especially in the spring...
Please email me shannonlynnking@comcast.net. I would love to pick your brain for other ideas!
Thanks so much!
