Colombian Birthday Traditions

I am Colombian born en Bogota. I was adopted by Americans who tried, but sort of missed the boat on the whole Colombian traditions...these are your people sort of thing. Then, I married a white man from Indiana...I tried not to, but what can you do, sometimes love chooses us. He, of course has no family, history or ethnic traditions whatsoever. Now we have a little girl, Gala, and I am trying to plan a huge first birthday party for her and I want to raise her to be proud to be Colombiana, but I don`t know where to start. Anything would be helpful, party related or not. I read the Colombian wedding message board and had to laugh because it was exactly what we did for ours (we ate a ton of food, played music all night, and hired a bartender for 10 hours then finished off the alcolhol after he left and talked until well past daylight the next morning and we weren`t even trying to make it Colombian...guess it`s in my blood.
