There are some great beaches in LI about 45 minutes away from Manhattan.
Long Beach- It`s a beautiful private beach in LI.
Or
Jones Beach-Public.
Hope this helps.

How about somewhere on the north shore? It is less busy than the south shore? If you did the south shore you could try Jones Beach but NOT field 4...there is one that is much more quiet...I forget which #. I am having a beach wedding as well. Good Luck!

I hope it`s not too late to suggest a place. My dream has always been a beach wedding. I found a place in NEw Rochelle. It is The Surf Club. We`re having the ceremony on the beach there and then the reception at the place. The room overlooks the water as well. It`s so beautiful New Rochelle has many places on the water and it is just right over the whitestone bridge.

On the north shore of long island - it`s not the ocean but the sound - there`s a state park on the water with a catering hall on it. Check out this link http://www.lessing.com/pavilion.htm
Lessing`s is pretty well know company on long island.
I priced it out a couple of months ago, i believe it was around $100 -p/p including tax and gratuity for a saturday night. I think the min # of people is 100 or 120.
Good luck.

Bayville has some lovely places right on the beach and it`s about an hour from the city. The LIRR goes to Oyster Bay and that`s right down the road.
