You should never have to pay to work in any profession, even as a model.
You do not need extensive training from a school such as Barbizon or John Robert Powers, nor do you need to pay to be seen by model scouts at a convention. What you do need is DETERMINATION.
The easiest way to get started in modeling is to have someone, your mom or a friend, take pictures of you. I should also mention that OneModelPlace.com is a great resource for putting you in touch with professional photographers who will do TFP or Time For Pictures shoots. You will need a head shot, and a full-length shot. The full length shot should show off your figure tastefully as that is what agents are looking for. You should make multiple copies of your photos. More importantly, you need to do your research and find agencies in your town/local market (check the yellow pages under the word Model), or you can look for major market modeling agencies online. You should compose a brief letter stating you would like to model and would like to be considered for representation. It is best to state you are willing to meet them at their convenience, and you should also include your contact information, statisitcs, and any experience you may have. Your letter should be sent with you head shot and full length shot, as well as a SASE should you want your photos returned. You can also call the agency in advance and ask them if they have a day for open calls where you may meet with them in person. You can also model independently from an agency, but you must be very resourceful in looking for jobs-ask photographers if they know of representation or work, if you meet other models ask them as well, search www.craigslist.org, and so on.
The most important thing I will state is that you must exercise common sense and good judgement. If a photographer or agency asks you to do something you are not comfortable with, DON`T DO IT. A legitimate agency will not make false promises or sugar coat everything they tell you. You should not have to pay money for any reason, and if you do have business expenses, save your receipts because everything from make-up and clothing to meals are tax deductable, either by you or your Mom.
Lastly, do not be discouraged if an agency chooses not to represent you or you do not get chosen for an assignment. It is not something you should personalize. Agencies try to keep their books small and can not have a multitude of a particular kind of person. It would be unfair for a 5`10" blonde with green eyes to have to compete against 6 other girls who look very close to her.
You are always encouraged to resubmit every 6 months as the preferred look is always changing.
YOU CAN NOT COMPARE YOURSELF TO ANYONE BUT YOU AND WHAT YOU ARE CAPABLE OF. BE HAPPY WITH AND PROUD OF WHO YOU ARE.
Good Luck!

I can help promote you with your own web page. It doesn`t cost anything and will help you get exposure. All i will need is some basic imformation and a few photographs to do the page with.
