Lacing Of A Corset Backed Dress

I have two corset backed dresses for friends of my daughters that need alterations. I`m not quite sure what is the proper way to lace up the corset. I`ve been told that you make an "V" shape and that the top of the corset should be pulled tight enough for the skin to fold somewhat so that when the person settles into the dress it will stay snug. Can anyone else give me some insight? Also what is the best way to finish off the bottom with out just tying a bow?

You always start at the top and the lacing design is up to you. Most people do the v but do it different ways to see what looks the best. When you get to the bottom, you tie a bow and tuck it in. You should have a spot where it can be tucked at the bottom of the lacing. Remember when you do the lacing, do it loose at first and make sure all of the laces are flat and not twisted. After you get to the bottom, go back to the top and tighten one at a time. Make sure you dont tie it too tight because allthough it feels "secure" you could end up being in pain all around the ribs & belly later. Make sure you are comfortable. If you are going strapless make sure you use strong tape!! I edit wedding videos for a living and have seen brides pop out of their dresses at the reception and its embarrasing!
