Becoming A Party Planner

I am interested in becoming a party planner in my area (Milwaukee, WI). I was wondering if anyone has suggestions on how to get into the buisness. I`ve seen a lot of online ads for books and CDs that help you learn what to do. Have any of you tried these. Please respond with any tips and advice. Thanks
