Several Recommendations:

1) Dress: Check out ebay stores. Check out other designers that make the same dress.
Ex: I fell in love with an Oleg Cassini Dress at David`s Bridal, but the dress cost $1,500 but I found two other designers that made the dress for less (I found one that makes the dress on an ebay store for $511.

2) Reception Hall: Check out places like Ruritan Clubs (www.ruritan.org) as well as buildings that your public parks own. I found that the local county parks, owned several buildings for far less than most locations normally cost.

3) Ceremony locations: Again check your local park services. They may have a park or building that they may own. Also sometimes they own historical churches for far less than oridinary churches.

4) Hair and make-up: Check local cosmetology shools. They will do your hair and make up for far less than your average salon.

5) Food: Check with local culinary schools. They need the real life experience. Also check out local family owned restaurants. My personal opinion go with a buffet. Nothing fancy.

6) Cake: Check culinary schools. Check the local colleges as well. Look for p/t cake people or someone that does it out of their home.

Another source is www.craigslist.org. Check your local area.

Thanks Ive actually been doing a few of those things. I found an ebay designer as well that knocks off the dress i love. Mine is Davids Bridal Woman but the one she does is almost exactly the same except the modesty panel of the halter top. It is more like the alfred angelo style. I also have been nailing craigslist every day. I have already found a local woman who gave me floating candles and a birdcage for the cards for free. I have also been lucky enough to find a reception hall that will do a full buffett with salad & rolls, a pastry table, bar wash, linens, china, glasses, full service, 3 bartenders, AND a wedding cake design of my choice!!! I love the idea of the hair and makeup school. I work for a photography & videography company so I can offer the student professional pictures of the hair and makeup in a mini album if she could barter for our hair and makeup. It can increase their probability of employment and will be a great addition to their resume and portfolio of work. I am going to contact a local school to see if any students graduating around my date would be interested. Thanks so much for the information!!!!!

Hi! I TOTALLY understand your predicament! When I got married I also had a special needs child and had to seriously limit my wedding expenses.

I did have a buffet at the reception, but there was almost no cost to me! I asked each family member (close family - you know, aunts and uncles, grandparents, parents, siblings - tho ones closest to you, also a couple of very close friends) to each bring a party-sized dish for the reception! I was apprehensive about doing this at first, but then I asked myself if I would pitch in a dish for a close friend or family member, and of course I`d be delighted to help, as they all proved to be! :) Some of them made them at home and brought it with them to the reception. Others ordered it from a caterer and picked it up on the way. It TOTALLY WORKED OUT GREAT!!!!!!!!! One brought the mostoccholi, one brought salad, a couple of people brought different chicken dishes, etc.. We provided non-alcoholic beverages and a champagne toast. For those who wanted to really party it up, we went out to a local lounge to dance after the dinner buffet reception, so each person`s drinks at the lounge were paid for by the individual.

Each person that I asked to "sponsor" a dish I asked personally ahead of time, and none of the other guests even knew I had done it that way. Everyone commented on what a lovely wedding / reception it was!

Also, a great way to add color and some pizazz for cheap is with clusters of balloons (go with more groups of 3 ballons or so, as opposed to just a few bunches of a dozen balloons; this will spread the color around), colorful candles (check dollar stores or other discount stores).

And this idea I saw at a wedding and loved it: There were little "nests" on all the tables made out of that metallic easter grass stuff. And in the nests were simple white votive candles, several (about 3 - 5) candles in each nest. It was really pretty and surprisingly classy looking! And when the candles were lit, the light reflected off the metallic grass and made it extra pretty.

One other thing I did at my reception was to take strips of simple curling ribbon (use whatever colors you want), curl it, and hang individual pieces of it down from the ceiling. You just tape one end to the ceiling, and cut it off just above the tops of people`s heads. COOL!

HAVE FUN!!!!!!

I just finished planning my wedding (took me 5 months). I did NOt shop for anything except the men`s dress shirts and their ties in any store. I viewed and purchased everything online. Our wedding came to $5,400 including $500 to the church and $1,300 for a 30 person buffet dinner in a private banquet room at an Italian restaurant. It includes my wedding gown (which is quiet elaborate with a train and much beadwork on it), 2 men`s suits, 2 bridesmaid dresses, all of our jewelry sets, 3 silk flower arrangements, my shoes which I decorated with lace, pearls, and tiny white rose buds that I ordered online, our 14K white gold wedding rings, wedding favors, weding bugbbles, 6 disposable wedding camera`s, 2 pairs of men`s dress shoes, a white CD player for the music we edited to suit our needs and come down the aisel with, my veil, and a tiarra which matches my bridal jewelry. It also includes almost $400 for the castle we are staying in on our wedding night along the Hudson River.

For another $4,600 we are going to Venice, Rome, Florence, and Siena, Italy for our honeymoon (that includes airfare, 3 hotels, and a few meals, as well as our escorted tours during our trip for an entire week).

Wedding and honeymoon total= approximately $11,000
