You do not have to be certified if you live in an area where the competition is low. If you will be in a larger city with lots of competition, you may want to become a certified wedding consultant. You can do this through a course over the internet. It would really help to apprentice with an established consultant/planner while in school. Most universities don`t offer this as a major, so a good major choice would be business or marketing. You must be a very organized, creative, detail-oriented person to do this job. Also, you may want to work part-time in a bridal shop to truly understand the emotions involved in weddings, to see if you can actually handle these brides & their moms!

There are several ways to get started. Experience working for any wedding professional or vendor would be helpful. There are certificate programs costing about $600-$1000. I would suggest www.weddindsbeautiful.com. They offer a program that allows you to choose your pace. For $100 you`ll be registered to receive 1st course. Order courses 2-18 for an additional $40 each. There are many ways for you to earn as you learn. Contact me if you`d like more info. Good luck!
