Who Has Shower?

My friends are hosting a shower for me back home, i live in a different state, and my mother says that usually my friends would have one, someone on my side would have one and someone on the fathers side would have one. I was hoping there would just be one big one. Whats the deal? and is it correct that my sister should not host?
