Hey. I know it sounds bad but if you think about it...you arent spending hardly any of your time inside the church, so dont waste time or money with major decor. Most churches have faux flowers they have out for their services, so you can go with those or smaller cheap ones. Think about what else you could do with the money besides waste it on decorations that sit for a maximum of one hour (at a catholic ceremony with full mass) and then they usually end up in the garbage. With the cost is it really worth it? August is beautiful and if you do outdoor photos, you will have plenty of opprotunity to catch the natural surrounding foilage in your photos. I work for a photo and video company and i am the video editor. Believe me even on the video...church decorations arent worth the cost or trouble. Good luck and happy planning!!!

I got married last month (Feb 9).
We had no decorations at the church except for candles. We had 12 inch square mirrored tiles (a total of 12 of them)with 3 assorted heights of candles all the way across the front of the alter, and a couple of short columns (like you can get at Hobby Lobby) that were loaned to us, with more candles on them. The only flowers we had were the bridesmaids` bouquets & my bouquet. It was gorgeous!
I watched the sales at Hobby Lobby & got candles at 1/2 price.
Talk to everyone you know & don`t be afraid to ask for help with what you`re doing. Most people would love to help. Figure out what you`d like to use & borrow items that are reuseable, or go to 2nd hand stores, yard sales, dollar stores etc. We found lots of great stuff this way. I even ran a cheap ad in our local paper requesting good used items to decorate at a wedding & got some great deals.

I`m getting married on Sept 8th. We have hardly any decorations. For one reason our priest won`t allow a lot of decorations. The only decorations we have are pew bows. I`m having cranberry colored dresses, and I found pew bows that match. It looks a lot more vibrant with colored pew bows then having just plain white ones. The only flowers in the church will be what the girls will be holding and also a arrangement by the alter that will represent our family who have passed on. Our priest told us that those flowers need to stay in the church as a gift to the church. So no I wouldn`t spend alot in the church.

The Church is really not meant to be decorated- if you really are wanting to decorate, I would focus more on the reception. There`s your clean slate- people are there to see you and your fiance` get married in the House of God or under God`s eyes. They are focusing on you, not the decor. Pew bows though are relatively inexpensive and effective if you want to decorate. Also, aisle runners can add flair if you really want to decorate. I can email you a pic of a pretty personalized aisle runner that comes in multiple colors if you want. This would add a touch of color. The only things I really think of though for the church are unity candles (if you`re going to do this in your ceremony) and perhaps a memorial candle if you want to memorialize someone special that has passed. I can send you pics of these things too if you like.
Otherwise, I`d let your bouquet and your bridesmaids bouquets be what stands out.
You can email me at woodrum.kelly@sparklingcelebrations.com if you`re looking for ideas. Good Luck to you!!
