Wedding Gift Never Received

My daughter married 5 months ago.

An old friend and husband of my daughters was invited to the wedding. They attended, but, no gift was given.
The matron of honour called and asked if she had left a gift at the reception, as she was checking to make sure no gift was missed, as she was in charge while the bride and groom were away.
The friend said she brought an envelope to the wedding, but forgot it in the car. She said she would arrange to deliver it to the bride upon her return.
About a month later, the friend called the bride and asked to meet her for lunch.
During lunch there was no mention about her forgetting to leave an envelope, nor was there any gift or card given.
It is now 5 months later, and this friend is calling again, asking to meet for lunch. Never has she mentioned or sent any card or gift.
What is the proper proticol? please advise or comment, as we find this very strange.
