Married Before My Best Friend!

I am getting married in June 2004, however my boyfriend and I have not yet announced our engagement. My best friend got engaged in Dec 2002 & is getting married in August 2004.We had alreay booked our wedding when they announced their engagement.I am afraid she will be devestated. They originally said they would marry 2003 so we thought 2004 would be a safe bet.I need advice on how to break the news that we will be married before them.I am afraid she will think we were being sneaky. We havent got engaged yet due to a number of reasons eg family illnessess exams etc.

If you are close with your best friend, why don`t you just try being honest with her and telling her that you had planned for 2004 because you thought they`d marry in 2003. Does it make a big difference? It will just be exciting to both be married so close together. Would you want to hold a huge wedding and make it a double-wedding? Because that would be cool, too. Just enjoy the fact that you both found people you love and that you are getting married...it shouldn`t ruin your friendship...

I am getting married in October and my best friend is getting married in December. My partner and I got engaged last October and my friend and her partner got engaged in December. Up until a few weeks ago, they were getting married in July. It doesn`t make a difference to me when they get married, before or after, as I am just happy and excited about the whole thing and look forward to sharing both days with her.
Obviously you are thinking about your friend and that`s good, but just sit down and talk to her about it. I can`t see there being any problem. The only thing I was concerned about was the weddings being too close together, within weeks of each other, but I had another friend whose bridesmaid got married 2 weeks after her own wedding and even that was okay. As the wedding couple you will obviously be the centre of attention on your wedding day and they will be on theirs, so don`t worry about it.
