American Indian Weddings

I just wanted to inform you of the correct spelling of the tribes you mentioned earlier. I am Native and it just bugs me to see not just a white woman wanting a traditional wedding, but one who does not even know the correct spelling of her future husbands tribe?!.. It just shows how ignorant our country really is. Navajo people prefer to be called Dine and Choctaw is spelled just as it sounds. American Indian traditions are not put out on display because they are just like any other ceremony, sacred. A true traditional wedding is arranged between the families of the couple. It is looked at as being disrespectful to that culture to have a mock wedding. People do not realize what meanings are really put into our ceremonies. Our traditions are not practiced for show. We are Native all year round.. Everyday of our lives.. 24/7. Pow wows do not make us who we are, those individuals are in it for a recreational fun and competition. There is nothing sacred about a pow wow.. Just to clear that up. Every white person I know has always asked about that so theres the answer. Do not take anything i have said as a bad thing, thats just the way it is. Im only trying to educate others. Mvto
