Different Type Of Celebration-Ideas?
My DD doesn`t want a traditional shindig (big party, DJ, etc) for her Bat Mitzvah. Anyone have advice for how we coordinate a small luncheon/maybe take a group of kids to the theater to celebrate? How do you do this without offending ppl? How does a lunch at the temple work? There will be 2 other kids on the bima with her, so I don`t want to sponsor a kiddush lunch that will be open to all - the crowd will be huge, and full of ppl we don`t know. Thanks in advance for any ideas!

As a present synagogue board officer and former chair of the bnei mitzvah committee at a previous synagogue, I suggest that you first check with the synagogue as to their policies . Is a Kiddush required? Does this take place in the social hall? Can the social hall be reserved for your private party when there is a triple? Are there alternate locations in the synagogue or closeby? Once your can isolate a location for a private party, let your daughter have a party the way she wants it. You should be very proud of your daughter for having her own ideas and for wanting a more meaningful celebration.
