HI i had my first depo shot 2 weeks ago and after bleeding for just over a month i was real happy that the bleeding stopped. But in only 2 weeks i have found the side effects, i have real bad mood swings, i find myself depressed a lot, and my hair is falling out by the handfuls! now i know of only one person who had the problem of her hair falling out but she was on the shot for like 5 years. Plus because of taking the depo shot she ended up getting some kind of flesh eating disease in her face, and had to get a lot of surgery done to fix it. I found this all out the day after i got the shot. But i just wanted to know if anyone had these kinds of effects. Please i hope to hear back from someone before i go bald. Thanx!!

Sorry that you`re having problems! I`m not doctor so this is NOT professional advice, just the experiences of a Depo user. I was on it from 1998-2003 and I went back on it in March of 2006. I experienced weight gain (around 20 lbs) and some depression, but it was worth it to not get my period! Depo is linked to depression- you can talk to your doctor about it and maybe try an anti-depressant. I have no experience with hair loss... But it can cause bone density issues, especially if you`re on it long-term. My doctor is unconcerned about it with me because I`m not at all delicate or small-boned, but if you`re petite this could be an issue for you.
If you`re on it to stop your periods, have you thought about Seasonale? You get 4 periods a year and it should cause fewer issues.
