Asking Someone To Be My Maid Of Honor

I just got engaged Sunday! YAY!!!!! And I`m super excited... But here`s my problem... I want to ask my close friend to be my Maid of Honor, but I dont want it to be cheesie and ask her over the phone.... Do I take her to dinner??? Buy her a gitf??? How do I ask her??
Also another thing that`s been on my mind... My sister-in-law and I are now pretty good friends, but when she married my brother 3 years ago we didn`t get along, and she didn`t include me or any of my family in their wedding... Would it be wrong of me to do the same to her, or should I go off the fact that we`re friends now and ask her to be apart of my wedding???

Congratulations on your engagement! Its so fun, huh!!?? Being that we are in the age of technology, I sent one of my bridesmaids an e-will you be my bridesmaid-card. It was really cute, plus it took away the cheesy factor. I think you can go here http://weddings.theknot.com/ecards/selectcard.aspx and find a cute one. Just an idea.... Anyway, as far as the sister in law problem, if you want her in your wedding, ask her. Don`t let her bad behavior in the past regulate how you act. If you are friends and you want her in that special position, forget about the past and ask. Hopefully, the fact that the two of you are friends, she has changed her attitude!!

Congrats again and good luck planning!
