Hi Lindsay! I am also interested in becoming a wedding planner. I went to a national college search site, and I couldn`t find a degree in it either. All I`ve found is a diploma from PCDI (professional career development institute). You can visit their site at www.pcdi.com. I don`t think classes in wedding consulting are available through colleges (other than pcdi). I am currently taking entrepreneurship, and I would encourage you to do the same. Also, take lots of business courses or computer courses. Wedding consulting is like any other business, if you work to succeed, it doesn`t matter what kind of an education you have. Your own drive and your creativity will take you far. Good luck, and don`t take my customers! (=

Some colleges have classes on Floral design. Other than that. You just have to have a creative mind and willing to be there for all kinds of people and work well with all. That is what I have found out with experence. Any one can plan a wedding but you want to have the mind that people look for to answer all questions for them and the ideas.
Just my 2 cents..:)

You don`t need to be certified to be a wedding planner, but they highly recommend that you have some type of educational background. You can`t just go into something like that cold. You`ve got to know about the business. You should pay the money to prepare yourself. One of the most common questions potential clients ask is "what is your educational background in the business?" If you don`t have some education, you could easily get passed up for a more experienced consultant. My advice, to stay safe, prepare yourself and have at least a diploma in hand.
