Depoprovera Don`t Do It
Yes, everyone is different, and I am happy that some women with severe endometriosis have found relief using it. Maybe depo is better for treating endo than for birth control. From reading all the comments here in this forum, I see that many of the same symptoms I had when I took Depoprovera nearly a decade ago are still haunting women today. I was only able to stand 2 doses (6 months) and my poor husband saw a side of me that did not at all look like the woman he married. I gained weight (not because my appetite increased either), was incredibly moody, and lost ALL sex drive. After only two doses, it took me almost 6 months to get my periods back. I tried it only because I had been using the pill for so long and thought it would be neat to try--I didn`t do any research, or have the benefit of the internet and the feedback everyone here has provided. Depo was relatively new and losing my normally very heavy period was very enticing. Now that I`m almost 40, I don`t think that trying to get rid of your period is reason enough to risk the myriad of symptoms that many women have loathed from their decisions. And we have so many other forms of the pill, or even the new patch today. I agree with the saying, if it ain`t broke, don`t fix it. If you`re doing fine w/ another form of birth control I don`t believe the potential benefits are worth it. --Patsy

Please tell me where the web sight is that posts all the terrible side effects women have had to depo-provera. I believe it is a web sight but I cannot find it.
I would like to know if there are psycological effects as well as physical.
This is VERY important.

I started taking the depo shot because I had extremely bad periods, horendous cramps and heavy bleeding. Now that I recieved the shot, I have my period, not only for 6 days but 14 and am completely moody, emotional and irritable. This shot is a mistake, it caused no good.

I had been on Depo since Oct./99. I to have gained more weight than I ever expected to (45 lbs.). I haven`t had an injection since Feb./03. I`ve had excruciating pain for the last 3 wks. And my mom says it has messed with my mind. I will never take it again and I will never recommend it to anyone else again.

I love depo. The thing about all birth control is that it does mess with your appetite, but you learn not to succumb to the cravings. I love not worrying about taking a pill all the time!

DO NOT DO IT!!!
More info @ many sites. Put depo in your search engine & start surfing. Many sites out there are dedicated to the horrendous side effects people have from it. W/in 2wks of my 1st shot i couldn`t stand to be touched by my new husband, wildly moody & angry, bled 3 wks out of 4 & spotted the 4th, gained 40 lbs in 6mos (eating the same as when i weighed 150), all the symptoms of pregnancy....nausea, heartburn, breast tenderness, gi upset, etc. My dr. Told me it was the good eating of love & only tested my thyroid when i persisted. It was normal. Had to get a woman dr. To find out is was the depo. Took 2 years formy metabolism to kick back in, & 5yrs later my cycle is still erratic!
My co-worker got ONE shot & was admitted to hosp. For erratic heart & too much bleeding.
My sister bled contiually after her 1st shot, never got another.

I have been on Depo since july of 2000, and recently gave it up. I haven`t had a period or even spotted since I first found out I was pregnant back in october of 1999. That would be the only positive thing about Depo. I`d rather suffer a period! No one informed me of the side effects when they started me on it. It made me very moody and depressed, my appetite never increased but after 2 years I started gaining weight, 20 pounds all together. I have lost about half of what hair I had. This past year on it I started developing abdominal pain and symptoms like pregnancy! I have been miserable. My husband says I am not the same person I used to be! Since I have stopped taking the Depo I haven`t felt right at all! I cramp severly and get migraines daily, my digestive system is all out of whack and my hair is still falling out! I fear that I may never get my period back, and may never be able to reproduce again.

I have been on the shot for almost 2 years and have had no problems. The only down side I have experienced is the day I get my shot I get very nautious, I lay down and take a nap and I am fine. I love not having a period and the fact I only have to remember to get it every three months. I am concerned about one thing though- my husband and I are thinking about starting a family and I am worried about how long it will take after I get off the shot. If any one knows a web site I might look at let me know.
