Where Do Big, Tall Girls Get Their Gowns?
I am to be married sometime this summer, and I have no idea where to get a dress. I am quite tall (about 6 ft without heels) and somewhat long waisted. My waist and hips would probably fit in a 14 or 16, but my bust would probably be an 18 or 20. I know they are meant to be altered, but I`m not sure I have that much faith in anyone to take care of my height and odd shape. I would kind of like to have one made, since I also want one a little more modest than average, but I have a very small budget, and I also can`t find any seamstresses in my area. The closest to me would be the DFW or the Longview,TX, area. Can anyone else in this position give me any recommendations? (On a side note, I wear a 40-42DD bra, and most longline bras I have tried collapse under the weight of the cups. Does anyone know a good bra that won`t do this, or can anyone recommend a place to get corsets?)

Because of your "interesting" body stats, first your best bet is to get a dress in a size 20!
Second, mail order catalogs (such as Lane Bryant, Romans, Fredericks of Hollywood) carry PLUS SIZE Bras (up to DD & G)...check out their websites.
If you`re on a tight budget, then here`s an alternative--go to any department store (like a filene`s basement, or whatever), and BUY a WHITE DRESS (in your size), then go to a CRAFT CENTER w/a fabric department and buy WHITE LACE and WHITE SATIN: the "white lace" is for your VEIL, and the "white satin" is for your gown`s (or dress`) TRANE.
It`s better to be creative when you`re in a limited crunch, whether to have nothing at all.
Good luck in your endeavors.

Hi there Carolyn!
I can relate...I`m 5`11, long waisted, and am also a 42DD.
I tried on wedding dresses recently in a shop that had long line bras that actually FIT! Plus they held things up. And get this...it`s STRAPLESS! When was the last time you found a strapless bra that would hold gals like us up?
I took down the name of it to keep an eye out for it elsewhere. It`s called a Carnival`s(R) Torsolette`s 423. I found it on this Canadian website for about the same price as the bridal shop: http://www.braboutique.com/Pages/St-0-1-2-0.htm
Give it a go, it just might do the trick! Good luck!

I can relate too... I am 6`2`` and a size 18. I found a dress that fit just fine at a local bridal store. Most manufacturers make dresses for 5`10-6ft tall so they can be taken up. I`m sure you can find a dress with no problem. I did!

I am so sorry I don`t have an answer but I would love to hear the responses. I am short but terribly long waisted and need a 38DD long line bra for someone about 6 ft. Tall. I can`t find one. Where do tall or long-waisted women buy longline bras?

I have a girlfriend who is 6` tall and a size 18, I would suggest contacting her - she bought her gown at David`s Bridal - it was beautiful and I know she`s interested in selling it - she also has a matching flower girl dress, a size 5 or 6 (children`s size). Her email is ll_elliott@hotmail.com - you can tell her Babs suggested you contact her - good luck!

I could not buy "off of the rack" and did not want to order a dress I could not try on first. I also wanted a platinum dress - not the traditional white. I ended up hiring a seamstress that worked at a wedding dress shop. For $400 I get to design my dream dress!!

Try finding a store in your area that carries Casablanca Bridal, The designer will cut the dress to your measurements, including your hemline. Good Luck
